I also Like the old turn based Final Fantasy games. I loved the random battles and wont buy another FF until they are re-implemented.
You might be waiting a while, then. Random battles aren't going to be brought back in now that they've gotten better at implementing battles into the environment.

Besides, random battles take away a lot of the strategy in the game.
Fine by me. FF has been getting steadily worse since the leap to the PS2.
In your opinion, you mean.

I quite liked FFXII. It's gameplay was brilliant, though the story wasn't great.
And X is the exact opposite - the story's amazing, but I don't like the feel of the game much.
VII's still my favourite, though. =]
Ok, that's your opinion and it's perfectly acceptable. Now excuse me but I'm going to back out of this before it turns into an argument.
What? Sorry, if I came across aggressive......I wasn't trying to pick a fight.
Hence the smiley face. :D

I'm kind of surprised to see shooters so high so far. Borderlands was great, but I'm still not convinced it's an RPG. It's just hack-and-slash loot whoring with guns. And as far as Mass Effect goes, the combat system was the worst part of it for me, other than driving the damn Mako around.

I'm kind of partial to all three of the turn-based options, since that's what I grew up with, but I also can have tons of fun with real-time action-based systems, too, if they're done right. Unfortunately, a lot of them aren't, in my opinion. Trying to play Morrowind made me sad, enough so that I never even bothered with Oblivion. Something like Secret of Mana is still a good time after all these years, though, especially with a couple other people.

Speaking of which, I'm going to go hunt down whoever at Squeenix thought it was a good idea to make the sequel to FF:CC single-player instead of keeping the multi-player (the only good thing about it in the first place) and letting you play online. And then I'm going to throw a brick through their window.

It's not that it's just that I can get very...defensive on the topic of FF.
Oh, right. That's okay, then. :D

It's a sad day when "Pokemon" beats "Final Fantasy" as the poster child for "turn based RPG"

I can't really pick out of the list. I just love RPGs in general. I played WoW and liked it, although I no longer play it due to monetary issues. I still love playing Pokemon. Warcraft 3 is one of my favorite games. And Fallout 3 and Oblivion are just masterpieces. So I kind of just wish there was an, "All of the above" or "I like most RPGs."

On an aside, I hate when people say "RPG games." RPG stands for role playing game, so saying "RPG game" is like saying role playing game game. I am happy to report that so far this thread has passed as there has been no use of the ill-used phrase, "RPG game" yet.

Anyways, I have a question. What would you all consider Dragon Age: Origins?

Difficult. Before, I would have said either action or WoW style, despite liking RPG's in general, but ever since I've played DA:O, I'm not sure what to say anymore.

You know what the thread is about. I happen to like the Shooter RPGs more because, well...I'm a big FPS player and I like the skill tree, the quest and the Inventory system. (Yes one of the main reasons I buy a game is determined by the inventory system)
World of Warcraft's battle System is called point and click.
But the overall playstyle is MMORPG .________.'
And that's sort of what i like.

Cant decide. I'd say either Action RPG's or Real Time stradegy games with rpg bits.

Seriously? No love for the Fire Elblem or Warcraft type games?
I lov Fire Emblem (particularly the sacred stones) and I'm trying to find similar games for the PS2 like disgaea, but it's really expensive.

Turn based games are just so boring. The only kind of turn based i like is galactic civilisation 2 and similar 4X strategy game.

I would have taken the last three choices.

Also, a shout out to tales of destiny 2 combat system, wich was very fun and mostly in real-time.

I liked FFXII and FF games that used the time bar, so I like to be in constant action during the turn-based combat. Then again my favourite RPG is technically an action-RPG, Kingdom Hearts, so... I don't know...

I prefer Action most of the time, though I'm open to pretty much all types.
