This thread just shows the make up of the Escapist. Most of you never even played any of the PC ones and this was a PC franchise long before COD4. Maybe that shows my age too.
I played the PC ones and I still thought CoD4 was better.

Hm, well, United Offensive would take it, mainly because you can drive TANKS.
TANKS.

But that also makes it rigged, so I never really got into it.

So, CoD4. But I also have the feeling MW2 will make a good son of CoD4.

Started by playing CoD 4 and then moved to CoD, CoD: UO and CoD 2. The first ones are really good though they can't really match CoD 4 in pure gaming joy.

I was playing cod4 and wondering, What is the peoples favourite call of duty title.

I'll go first. Cod 4 because it is simply amazing. Great story, addictive multiplayer and fantastic gameplay. Whats yours and your reason?
I feel like an ass for liking COD4 more than the others, but it's the game I'm still playing, i.e. multiplayer.

I have to admit though; the single player missions for World At War were epic, and while the game didn't last as long as its predecessors, I was truly sucked into game.

I remember the same feeling playing the first COD, charging the German lines in the Red Army. I unfortunately didn't get much of that feeling from COD4.

COD 4 because the multiplayer seems more balanced.

But who voted for future games? How do you know they will be good?

Modern Warfare. Great set pieces along with a story and characters that surprisingly didn't annoy me (as I would expect from the subject matter, i.e. Iraq War) Now if only the developers decided to explore different periods of time with every new installment...

So? Just because CoD: UO was on PC before CoD 4, it doesn't make it a superior game.

I've played all of them, I love all of them (Yes, even no.3, Bear in mind Treyarch only had 9 months to create the whole game.)

The best, however, is CoD 4.

No, all the reasons I gave made it superior. Let me add to the list for the pre-COD4 CoDs:

No Perks (Tell me the game wouldn't be better without Juggernaut, Stopping Power, Martyrdom, and the bugged Last Stand...not to mention the magical ability to make your gun fire faster or be more accurate without aiming).

No hardpoints for kill streaks (satchels and artillery came after total kills). Also, no aimbot dogs and helis. You used to be required to see the place you were going to spawn rape at least.

No run and gun HMG, if you were going to fire something heavy like a mg42 you had to bipod it up. (I will allow this for COD4 lmgs because they are squad level automatic weapons).

Weapons specific to nationality and specific role kits (none of this m4 with reflex, overkill perk and and Barrett 50 cal crap).

Less grenade spam (goes to the no perk thing, specific kits, and more explosives with total kills).

Perhaps greatest of all, none of this exact placement of people on the map thing they did starting in COD2. Wallhacks built into games.....

Cod4 has a really good SP, but the MP completely destroyed what made COD:UO great (well what was left after COD2 started chewing away at it). When you look at COD: World at War you can see Treyarch trying to achieve it again with the ctf mode, tug of war mode, bipods, and tanks. But...look what they had to give up because of the standards of COD4.

Everyone throws the same grenades, no potato mashers.
Everyone uses a bazooka, no panzerfausts or panzerschreks.
Stupid historically fictional "aperture" sights for all weapons.
Also fictional suppressors and flash hiders for some weapons.
Everyone uses bouncing bettys.
And the whole perk structure...

So I am guessing the whole ranking thing and the nifty camos are what does it for everyone here? Because COD has always been about "pimp my gun"...or not.

It's a hard choice between CoD and CoD4. I was better at CoD mp, tommy gun spray and pray but CoD 4's mp is more fun....CoD 4!

I ponder why there is the option for 'future releases'. How can they be your favourite if you have never played them. For all its hype you never know, mw2 could be horrific.
Lets try not to think that, the trailers look promising.

Ill admit u have a good point and i agree with it, but i still like mw2 and mostly because of the smoother gameplay.

I dont know how to describe it, but i just feel the gameplay and movement is better.

Also the sniping has been improved.

EDIT: The hype has gotten to me, that mw2 was a typo, i meant to say cod4
