Voted for Counter-Strike, as that's the first fps I ever played online back in sixth grade. My favorite of all time, though, is actually probably Team Fortress 1. Can't go wrong with a level called Turkeyburgers.

Garry's Mod.

no pre-defined goals, just hours of physgun fun

Where do I get Garry's Mod, is it free, if not, how much is it, and do I need a Source Engine game to play it?

I wanted it since I saw the video '100 Ways to die in Garry's Mod'

Garry's Mod can be bought from Steam for roughly £7 (Don't know what that is in dollars), but to run it you have to have another game using Source. I would recommend getting the TF2 + GMod bundle, which cost me £12 when I bought it.

For me it would have to be either Halo 3 or Garry's Mod. I just love the purely fun-based custom games in H3 (Although I despise matchmaking).

i liked planetside it was large always changing and there was some real strategy instead of just run at the enemy, and it was huge

I don't really have a favourite. There are several that I like. At the moment the one I'm playing the most is Halo, but I also like CS:S, TF2, L4D2 And Garrys Mod (not just a shooter, but it can be played as one).

I've recently been trying to play some Bad Company 2, just because MW2 did some things that I really really don't like. However, obvious as this may sound, Bad Company 2 really IS a Battlefield game through and through. My first FPS was Battlefield 1942, and it feels much the same. Having become used to the play style in CoD games, Battlefield feels strange now...plus it doesn't help that acquiring weapon upgrades takes FOREVER.

tl;dr: tried Bad Company 2, but having to accept that MW2 is, imo, the best online FPS on the market right now

that list is really lacking, no COD games?, no Halo?, no TF2 (i am offend)?,L4D/L4D2? Unreal tournament?, you left some of the biggest online mp games, but yes TF2 is my favourite online FPS at the moment followed by L4D2, then MW2

DoD...although ive become almost too good at that game, i get a lot of complaints from friends.

i agree with ya there, i love DoD its a underestimated game and a lot of fun to play, on the list id go for battlefield for me
