Um, not every furry is like that. A furry is just someone fascinated by anthropomorphic characters and animals. Some more than others.

Nein nein nein nein. I mean, yes, the furries are anthropomorphic animal characters. But it takes more than just having some slight semi-crush on a mainstream meme to fall under the definition furry. I should know because I am one!

I know it takes more than that and I wasn't talking about having a crush. I said fascinated, there is a difference. I know there are more things, but that's the basic requirement. Besides there's no set definition anyway.

No there is no set definition. I'm just annoyed with the fact that these ponies are way on their way of taking over the internetz and I don't understand what, if anything, is so special about them.

Well it's a good show for one thing and it's managed to spread so far because it's managed to (just barely) keep from being grouped into "furries".

These ponies have had little to no success in the actual fandom so the reason why anyone, anywhere, would draw some sort of a parallel between the two is beyond me.

However, that still doesn't explain what exactly makes these ponies so special. I tried to watch the show once but had to quit in order to avoid diabetes. No offense to you in case you like it, I just don't understand this phenomenon.

They are animals, therefore (obviously) they must be furry.

I'm not saying that I follow that logic, but that's probably the logic that's used be alot of people.

As for why the ponies are so liked, one thing is defiantly the memeic quality of them. If you've seen some of the images and videos that have been posted around you'll know that the show has some excellent animation that creates some awesome screenshots.

Note that each of those images are not altered beyond the text overlay (and Xzbit, or whatever his name is). All of those are actually taken from the show.

Also the show is quite enjoyable to watch. There are episodes that are better than others (the two pilot ones aren't that amazing), but overall it's pretty good and has alot of humor and interesting story stuff.

Well I can only take your word for it. I haven't seen it myself. At least not much of it. I just don't understand why so many people decide to jump on the pony-wagon. Perhaps it's some sort of urge to belong to a group or something. Because I can hardly imagine that this particular show is so freaking good and well-written that it attracts like 5 percent of the entire internetz.

It's an great, adorable, humorous show and the art direction blows the previous show out of the water (or at least what was on wikipedia... /shudder). The writing is pretty damn good; they say a lot of things that make them sound more realistic. Let met explain; a lot of cartoons (or just shows in general, for that matter) make me feel like they seriously are living in a different universe with some of the phrases they do/don't say.

However, I'm sure that part of the massive explosion is how people want to seem "ironic" and "edgy" (see youtube commentors for this... "I'm 20 and I love this!" etc).

I also love cartoons that I can enjoy, now more than ever because it makes me feel all nostalgic.

But there so many great western animations and cartoons. Why My Little Pony of all things? Surely, there ought to be some show out there that is more deserving of this attention. I can't think of any right now but I'm sure there are quite a few.

That's the thing, it is good enough that it attracts 5% of the internet. I'm sure there are people who watch it "ironically" (hipster definition of the word) and those who checked it out because everyone else did and continue to do so to "fit in", but those types of people are only a very small amount of the overall fanbase. Like you said, it's My Little Pony, why would you want to be grouped in amongst people who watch it unless you actually enjoy it?

Think about yourself for a moment, were your interests chosen because you wanted to fit in somewhere or because that's what you were interested in? I'm sure that you didn't choose what you liked according to what others liked, you choose what you were genuinely interested in. It's the same thing here, people actually like the show. I can see how you'd be confused about the whole phenomena, you wouldn't be the first (85% of the other internet is wondering what's this pony stuff all about), but the thing is it is an enjoyable show to watch for some. Taste is relative but when enough people genuinely like something, it has to be doing something right, right?
