Am I the only one who is absolutely tired of people marginalizing and dismissing the things I enjoy as a "fad" simply because it's something they don't like?General_Potatoes said:Am I the only one who is absolutely hating this fad?

and what do you think does "My Little Ponie" does? come on! you people cant be that blinded to realize that the first instances of our "Furry" side were cartoons, not unlike "MLP"Erana said:anthropomorphic animals for the sake of anthropomorphismHentMas said:and its funny how people in /b/ hasn't realized that THIS is basically being a furry!! XD
actually... no, being a Furry is liking certain anthropomorphic animals, like say, talking ponies with personalities, being a "YIFFER" (search it) is everything sexual in the furry fandom... also i laughed at you calling me "silly person" because if you notice my avatar, its a rabbit! XDThe Stonker said:Being a furry means you want to have intercourse with people that have fur.
So no, that isn't being a furry, you silly person.

Well I can only take your word for it. I haven't seen it myself. At least not much of it. I just don't understand why so many people decide to jump on the pony-wagon. Perhaps it's some sort of urge to belong to a group or something. Because I can hardly imagine that this particular show is so freaking good and well-written that it attracts like 5 percent of the entire internetz.Irony said:They are animals, therefore (obviously) they must be furry.CarlMinez said:These ponies have had little to no success in the actual fandom so the reason why anyone, anywhere, would draw some sort of a parallel between the two is beyond me.Irony said:Well it's a good show for one thing and it's managed to spread so far because it's managed to (just barely) keep from being grouped into "furries".CarlMinez said:No there is no set definition. I mean, yes, the furries are anthropomorphic animal characters. But it takes more than just having some slight semi-crush on a mainstream meme to fall under the definition furry. However, that still doesn't explain what exactly makes these ponies so special. I tried to watch the show once but had to quit in order to avoid diabetes. No offense to you in case you like it, I just don't understand this phenomenon.
I'm not saying that I follow that logic, but that's probably the logic that's used be alot of people.
As for why the ponies are so liked, one thing is defiantly the memeic quality of them. If you've seen some of the images and videos that have been posted around you'll know that the show has some excellent animation that creates some awesome screenshots.
Note that each of those images are not altered beyond the text overlay (and Xzbit, or whatever his name is). All of those are actually taken from the show.![]()

Also the show is quite enjoyable to watch. There are episodes that are better than others (the two pilot ones aren't that amazing), but overall it's pretty good and has alot of humor and interesting story stuff.
But there so many great western animations and cartoons. Why My Little Pony of all things? Surely, there ought to be some show out there that is more deserving of this attention. I can't think of any right now but I'm sure there are quite a few.Bags159 said:It's an great, adorable, humorous show and the art direction blows the previous show out of the water (or at least what was on wikipedia... /shudder). The writing is pretty damn good; they say a lot of things that make them sound more realistic. Let met explain; a lot of cartoons (or just shows in general, for that matter) make me feel like they seriously are living in a different universe with some of the phrases they do/don't say.CarlMinez said:No there is no set definition. However, I'm sure that part of the massive explosion is how people want to seem "ironic" and "edgy" (see youtube commentors for this... "I'm 20 and I love this!" etc).
I also love cartoons that I can enjoy, now more than ever because it makes me feel all nostalgic.
There obviously aren't if you can't think of any, mirite?CarlMinez said:But there so many great western animations and cartoons. Why My Little Pony of all things? Woah, let's not jump to conclusions here! Wait, that depends what genre we are discussing. I mean Spongebob and Invader Zim and similar cartoons have been insanely popular. And if we are to include CGI movies, My Little Pony doesn't stand a change, neither when it comes to fans nor quality.Bags159 said:There obviously aren't if you can't think of any, mirite?CarlMinez said:But there so many great western animations and cartoons. But Invader Zim has been insanely popular. It's done now so it has died down. And from what I've heard Spongebob sucks now.CarlMinez said:Woah, let's not jump to conclusions here! That's the thing, it is good enough that it attracts 5% of the internet. I'm sure there are people who watch it "ironically" (hipster definition of the word) and those who checked it out because everyone else did and continue to do so to "fit in", but those types of people are only a very small amount of the overall fanbase. Like you said, it's My Little Pony, why would you want to be grouped in amongst people who watch it unless you actually enjoy it?CarlMinez said:Well I can only take your word for it.
