Out of the eight here, what's your favourite progressive band of all time?
Mine would have to be Tool. DT are still awesome though! :D

Note: "Progressive house" doesn't count (fans of Dead Mau5 will be disappointed). Rock/metal please.

Got to be Porcupine Tree for me, I really like the songs and Gavin Harrison is my favourite drummer.

Though I do love Opeth (going to see them in december) and Dream Theater (especially the new lineup) too, I'm glad they made it to the poll.

I like several other prog rock bands too (some of them mentioned in the poll), but the three I mentioned are my favourite bands.

I love Fear of a Blank Planet, especially Anaesthetise. They should so have that as the last song of Guitar Hero, 17 minutes of awesomeness.

Being Progressive Rock it would be Rush, then Yes, then Pink Floyd. Progressive Metal on the otherhand would be Cynic, then Opeth, then Porcupine Tree, then Ayreon, then Dream Theatre.

That is excluding bands which have proggressive elements but are not either such as Obscura, Death, BTBAM, InMe, Devin Townsend etc.

Your list isn't very imaginative. Also, where's the 'Other' option?

My pick is Cynic.

Rush without a question. Alex Lifeson is number five on my top ten guitarists of all time list.

In my mind you have to go with the master of prog, and to me that's RUSH. They're one of originators of the prog rock sound, and made music that sounds like a supergroup, and it turns out to be three guys.

Exactly. Moody Blues FTW!

To not include an "other" option is kinda stupid.

I LOVE YOU FOR MAKING THIS THREAD.

OT: I have no clue, I listen to so many. Meshuggah's gotta be up there though (if you consider them prog). Also, The Dillinger Escape Plan is a favorite of mine.

Opeth. I love Prog Metal, and they mix it up so much with other stuff that I love it. I can't wait to see them in October.

Agreed that Mars Volta should be included. I voted Opeth because they are awesome, but my personal favorite is Camel, which Opeth list as an influence. Camel, having been around for decades, has a lot of mediocre shit, but also some of my favorite albums and songs ever. Mirage, Music Inspired By "The Snow Goose," and Nude are fucking awesome as well as this song: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieSYO-BfdWo" being one of the best bits of prog ever.

Also a shout-out to Gentle Giant and Liquid Tension Experiment for being magnificent.

I don't see why Old Metallica is on the list.

Pink Floyd, as they are my favourite band, definitely win it for me. Mastodon and Opeth are my favourite progressive metal bands though.
