Just want to point out the Tool, Opeth and Dream Theater are Progressive Metal. You could maaaaaybe argue Dream Theater are Prog Rock, but I really don't think so. As for Metallica, Progressive Rock? They're one of the pioneers of Thrash Metal. I've never heard anyone else refer to them as Prog Metal or Rock.

Anyway, speaking of only Prog Rock, it's Pink Floyd. Of the bands listed, without a doubt Dream Theater.
Porcupine Tree could also be considered Prog Rock andor Prog Metal as well.

They're really more Prog Rock though.
Don't know them, so I couldn't really comment on them. Although the name sounds vaguely familiar.
I can't help wincing at every person who spelled it "Dream Theatre" on this thread, including the OP. Yes I realise that is how you spell theater in some places, but it is also the name of a band. Nitpicky, I know, but it happens a lot to me... And I love Dream Theater.

Funnily enough, this one of the very few times I have spelt it in my region. (Australia)
Even the albums in Australia spell it "Theater."

This list includes Metallica and excludes King Crimson, Yes, Jethro Tull and Genesis.
Biggest. Fail. Evar.
Yes IS on there dumbass. Use your eyes. I just added in KC and Genesis. Vote for them and shut up please.
1. Well forgive me if I didn't refresh the page to check before adding my reply.
2. KC and Genesis are linked, and Porcupine Tree is still lumped in with "Other." Why? Can you only have 8 options when making a poll? If so you shouldn't have made this topic a poll in the first place.

Yeah, I'm a fellow Australian, so most of my friends used to spell it like "theatre" when they were talking about Dream Theater. Until I browbeat them into spelling it "right".

I'm more mad how you just blatantly said I didn't include Yes, even though they are like the 4th one on the list and one of the first bands I considered.

Lol, I just coincidently spelled it like that. I'm normally like when I'm writing the word, "remember, 'er' not 're.'

I like how you put progressive rock then make Dream Theater and Opeth an option, great stuff there. (smug condescending grin)

OT: Trying to decide between Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree. The latter is one of the best and easiest bands to listen to, but the former changed everything and their music is still awesome today.

One band that was not an option in the poll, but is still incredible: Symphony X. Their blend of Progressive, Power and Symphonic Metal all completed by a gruffy classic rock vocalist a la Jorn Lande (Masterplan) or David Coverdale (Whitesnake) just makes for a unique listening experience.
Their newly-released album Iconoclast also has some of their best work to date, or at least the most accessible for casual listeners to Prog... like me :D

I just actually looked at your user name. Coincidence, or are you a huge fan of Dream Theater as well?
