A bloody sign on the front page labeled "Number of days the Escapist has gone without mentioned Anita Sarkeesian"
or alternatively "Number of days the Escapist has gone without someone complaining about Political Correctness"

If that sign was on the actual Escapist, wouldn't it be permanently at zero?
Not because there's so many threads, but simply because the very existence of the sign mentioning her would reset the value.

There's an "Interests" and a "Bio" section in the profile page where anyone who wants to put their avatar source in can feel free.

Personally, I just want to be able to UNclick the "Preview" button for the post box.

How about something that stops that? A big button that pop up saying "You're the 10th person to say this, shush!"

But srsly, something like this for us lazy bums?

We get a lot of people who don't understand how to do it so it might be easier with a click of a button.
This'd be nice too.

I miss the freakin' magazine. Yes, that very same magazine the URL is named after. Seriously, it was a wonderful weekly event that introduced me to new ideas, introduces you guys to new candidates in case you get a new slot in the budget, and typically offered a kind of journalism that was both insightful and easy to understand, and that isn't seen often anywhere else. Or here either, as well.

the avatar thing; not necessary. one thing i think the site would benefit from is those black spoiler boxes you can use to spoiler just certain parts of text you have to mouse over to see. it's commonplace on other forums and superior to clunky spoiler boxes in every way.

You know what this site DOES actually need? An auto lock feature for unused threads. Several other boards I frequent have a feature that locks old threads after a period of inactivity. It helps cut down on thread necromancy. If people want to open the thread up again, they need to ask permission from a moderator.

really, why are we not using this?

1) User group chat is really hard to follow, I'd like it more forum like; or at least not in reverse chronology.

2) The nav menu on the main page is at the TOP of the main image. I'm talking that huge ass thing that auto scrolls and has the arrows on the left or right. The menu "Latest, features, news, etc" stuff is at the TOP and it sucks because of my particular use case:

Click on address bar
type escapistmagazine.com, press enter
page loads
move mouse DOWN to click on what's displayed, except I hover over the menu by accident because it takes up the entire width of the navigator and it then completely changes the context of the screen. It's stupid.

3) Ability to delete threads you've made.

4) A let's play section.

5) Enforcing all the political topics in Off Topic to actually be in R&P.

6) A functioning search feature so we can actually see if a similar thread was made in the last week without living on the site 24/7.

Because they auto-delete locked threads after two weeks.

The User Reviews forum would be gone, including literally 99% of Marter's reviews.

OT: I support the motion to add a Box of Reasoning to the report button. It would probably cut down on the petty reports and ease the moderation workload.

EDIT: I also support the motion for a Let's Play section.

This is more of a content suggestion, but I'd love more looks "inside The Escapist". I think it's always really cool to learn about what they're doing out there in North Carolina. I know they've done office tours in the past, more stuff like that would be neat to see!

Also news threads and Featured Content threads.

Dunno if the actual articles and content would be affected because I just don't know how tied they are to their linked threads, but it would most certainly be a nightmare for the staff if all of the comments for 98% of the official content of this site were to suddenly disappear.

I second this, would be so bloody useful with all the different ways to embed links.

It'd be nice, if reporting a post, to have the option to explain WHY you're reporting it. It'd be nice to be able to use it to request thread mergers or closures or to point out suspected bots, etc, without having to type out a bloody post explaining what's up and then reporting that too.
This'd be good, but I think what is more needed is for the mods to list why someone has gotten wrath on the infringing post. Surely that shouldn't take more than a couple seconds and would be helpful to others to know why users got wrath.

The feature that this site needs, that other forums I've been in had, is an arcade.

It needs tetris, and a leaderboard, and badges that reflect our tetris mastery.

As for what the OP wanted, I think that simply asking people has already been mentioned by pretty much everyone.

I'd rather they fix their page layout to be less atrocious. Perhaps making use of all the empty space everywhere.

I agree, mostly because then all those assholes who refuse to spoiler their videos when posting in video heavy threads would have no excuse not to do it.

Not to mention that the forum games would be pretty heavily affected. Thread necroing happens all the time in there and it would be a pain to have to ask permission to necro a bunch of threads or when a good forum game got deleted because no one had posted in it for a while.

I also support addition of a reasoning box for reporting so long as we keep it simple. Just having a few simple options like spambot, troll, verbal abuse, ect. would be just fine.

Once somebody PM'd me to ask what my avatar was from.

I responded by going to their home and shooting their dog. Because seriously, who asks a person something like that?
I know I asked you, and I don't have a dog. Who's dog did you end up killing then!?

OT: Just PM and ask, like people say, it's not an intrusive question and at worst you'll get no response.

A better CHAT. That IRC-thing bugs the hell out of me and I never manage to boot it up properly. A chat, easily reached (and noticeable) from the front-page, that isn't IRC.
You seemed to get online just fine yesterday ;D (I'm stalking you now).

OT: I occasionally get PMs asking where my avatars are from. My answers are usually a bit more complicated, 'cause I edit them myself. I don't think it needs it's own section in the profile though.

And what was my very first line uttered?

"Stupid POS Java, first time it actually boots up".

So, hah!
