America gets titles and consoles at a reasonable price.

Europe gets ripped off slightly.

UK just gets ripped off.

Australia, well if I lived there, I would import everything as it's cheaper to pay for the game/console and sea mail from the uk.

It frustrates me, but I'd rather not be 'that guy' that keeps having to top people on the screwed-by-life meter. It's like someone complaining that it's hot while the people next to them are on fire...it makes them look ignorant or very self-centred, but telling them off for it isn't going to make you any less incinerated.

Yeah. In Australia, both sides of the government are squabbling over fixing the refugee policy, and games are expensive. In the US, there's massive unemployment and poverty, and there was a massive shitstorm recently between both parties over whether or not they should really fuck the economy up.

Can't complain too much.

Aussies generally earn more than Americans, partly because the cost of living is somewhat higher here. Generally I'm a PC gamer, and most new release non-collector versions rarely break $80.

This. Our minimum wage is huge by comparison, it's why hardly anyone tips over here, it's completely unnecessary (unless they've done a stellar job, then it's nice to show your appreciation).

Likewise, our the $AU is also slightly higher than the $US. That doesn't have AS much to do with it, but still counts. Also, I think I've only ever pre-ordered (or bought on release date) one game, so naturally I just don't care as much.

Well, Yes sort of. I'm aware $60 is still a lot to pay for a game but when you have to pay $100 for a new release, it can get frustrating to hear people complain about $60, which would be considered amazingly cheap here.

That's not to say I don't sympathize. Games seem to be rather overpriced everywhere.

I don't get pissed off, but I think it's a little silly to complain for what we get (sometimes more, due to cutting out "inappropriate content") at $40 less than what we pay.

If you consider exchange rates, the US has to actually pay (more or less) the same as the UK. Well, on games themselves at least - I don't know about consoles.

Yea in New Zealand we generally pay $120 for brand new games. Which is about US$100. It really isn't fun. Especially when there are about six games coming out within a month or two of each other.

Average personal income for an Australian in 2010: $64,641
Average personal income for an American in 2006: $39,509

So there's that. It speaks more to what distributers think people will pay that what is necessarily fair, otherwise there'd probably be an average price somewhere in the middle. What this means though is that gamers from places like Australia and even NZ, (despite us having a weaker dollar,) are more valuable per capita to game companies than US gamers.

We should find a way to exploit that and get them to pander to us...

Maybe you aussies should complain abit more often about your ridiculous gaming pricing. Then some one might take notice.

Just because people are worse off than yourself it doesnt mean you should keep quiet when you are being screwed over

Yeah, I hear that's a major handicap. but yeah I was in NZ recently and the prices are even more ridiculous.

On a serious note, I do find a bit irritating when people from other countries complain about their games being expensive but since I've been buying most of my stuff from steam as of late it's been less of an issue. Not that steam's perfect by any means, I remember hearing that in the UK steam converts the price in US dollars directly to pounds which would make it really expensive.

EDIT: I was actually just thinking about this and when you consider it games aren't inordinately expensive compared to some other forms of entertainment. Taking into account time to price ratio many games are probably of greater value than movies and live plays and stuff. I mean I bought mirror's edge on sale for $2.50 just a few days ago. I have spent 9 hours playing it. That's 0.27 cents an hour. And I might still play it some more.

I don't get pissed off at them, it's still expensive... but our games are just WAY overpriced.

Also, this shouldn't really be in the off topic section.

Sixty dollars is way too fucking expensive for a new game. Yeah, you get ripped WAY off, and that's fine and dandy, but getting pissed off when people say that they don't want to pay sixty bucks for a luxury is on the other side of lunacy.
