well you forget the conversion rate. Dead Island is £50, but most new games are only £40.

Does a game really only cost $60 in USA? I thought I was getting games cheap at 500 sek, but that is like $70! Not to mention that game and gamestop charges 700 sek for a game, which is $100, I suddenly feel used!

From now on I will only buy pre-owned games, Im taking a stand!
That was my reaction when I went to the UK.
However, a protip from a countryman: use webhallen.com it's pretty much always 100 SEK cheaper than Gamestop.

Yea I think im gonna have to start buying games online, also sometimes media markt and elgiganten sell new games for 300-400 sek, but only on the day they are released.

I submitted to my Amazon overlords since the first time I bought a game from there. I live in Sweden and show from Amazon UK.
It's so cheap it's not even fair. Seeing all these crazy prices makes me sad.

I feel for you Aussies. I'm Swedish, and we've also got around 100-120$ to pay for our games (Or 600 SEK in our currency)

I see it like this, just because you pay more doesn't mean people have less right to complain. I don't give a damn if some guy lost both his legs, if my leg gets blown off I'm gone be in pain, I don't care if someone else is in worse shape.

I'm not gonna stop being in pain because someone has it worse and I'm not gone to accept high prices because others parts of the world pay more. I'm sorry you're getting screwed over, but it doesn't give you the right to take away my right to be bothered when I on a budget, cannot afford many new games, and have to resort to the cheap bin or the used games.

Lulz, these are first world problems. Games seem to have become so deeply rooted and incorporated into our daily lives that they seem to be a necessity. You know it seems that the only technologically advanced, 1st world country that DOESN'T complain about the price of games, while having a society enriched in all things digital, is Japan. I'm sure there are more, but they don't really make gamer headlines often do they?

Seriously people who cares? If they're too much for you, just shut up and wait for the price to drop. Go and play some of your other games while you wait. Or perhaps you could, I don't know, read a book? It all comes down to how you manage your money and how much you're willing to budget just to keep yourself entertained. I don't know why there's a mini war going on over the price of video games, and clearly I think it's just another excuse for people to ***** on gamer forums. So fellow Americans, be happy with what you can afford and what you have. Australians, be happy with your economic blessings and your gorgeous beaches. Moral of the story: we all have something we should be thankful for. Games are a luxury, not a necessity. If you can buy them, great. If you can't, don't whine about it to others then patronize them if they tell you to knock it off.

The only reason people think $60 is reasonable is because people pay more else where. $60 is a lot to ask for most games. Sure, we could go on this 'but it could be worse' campaign, but that doesn't change the fact that $60 is still expensive for the majority of Americans.
It's your issue if you find people complaining about $60 being expensive, because they're more expensive to you. That doesn't make them any less expensive to the people who have to buy them, so I fail to see your point other than who wins in the expensive games department.
I'm sorry, but the prices in Australia don't affect American consumers. The fact that they are more expensive has no bearing on the American game pricing. They're two separate markets.

They use the exchange rate as an excuse to bump up the price. I'm pretty pissed off that I have to pay that much more for a game. That's why I don't buy games anymore
Not really much of a gamer if you don't buy games. Just sayin'.

OP: Yes I do get annoyed but I will only pay full price for a game if I really think it's worth it, or not I just buy from Hong Kong. If I do buy it at EB, then I can just return the game if I don't like it and get my money back. Games that I get really hyped up about buy aren't 100% sure if I may like them include Brink and DNF which I both returned and got my money back.
I wouldn't call myself a "gamer". I just enjoy games.

It isn't really supply and demand. As I understand it, it's shipping costs. Yahtzee said it best, y'all are kinda out of the way. As such it take more to get the games out to you, and with fuel costs being what they are, I'm sure you can see how the prices you pay would rise. Everyone needs to be paid, so they pass the cost along. Y'all just get screwed over because of it. It's not cool, I agree, but it is understandable.

The only problem is of course that the AUD is stronger than the USD so really yeah, they are kinda getting fucked over.
I think this is why us Aussie get so annoyed. It doesn't matter how strong out dollar is we always seem to have to pay them same. That's not just games either it's everything. Games also seem to take FOREVER to lower in price.

to be fair, i'm pretty sure the Australian price of games is equivalent to Australia's current economic status, ie: you have more money, so stuff costs more money. But then again, i'm not super familiar with Australia's economic history over the past few years,

There's the whole difference in average earnings, the cost if living difference, but those have been covered. Another reason I can see that the prices here may be lower is that we(America) tend to buy a LOT of games. Perhaps the line of thinking goes: We're only going to sell so much in this country, might as well get our money out of it, while here they pretty much know if it's descent, it will sell. Then again that could be male bovine feces as that logic just came out of the back of my mind
