You think you have it bad? In Argentina we pay FOUR times as much or more for our games than people in the United States (US Dollar price is 4.25 I believe).

I.E.: I paid $320 for Mortal Kombat on the PS3.

Given that $60 US is $58 Australian I can see why that would piss you off a little given it needs no extra work to export a game in to Oz.

America gets titles and consoles at a reasonable price.

UK just gets ripped off.
If you consider exchange rates, the US has to actually pay (more or less) the same as the UK. Well, on games themselves at least - I don't know about consoles.
Americans from retail costs up to $60.

In UK retail on a standard issue costs up to £45 which is an extra 10 dollars. Which isn't much but adds up.

Now for consoles, PS vita (the wifi one) will cost $249 reccomended, but will cost £235.

which is $368.43, Yeah paying 100 dollars extra for same product.

What you've got to undertand dude, is that we get paid like 3X the amount Americans do in the minimum wage. As a 26yo, I earn roughly $23 just working in a regular retail job. In America (from what I've heard), minimum wage can be anything from $5 to $8.

So if you earn $5 to $8 an hour: yeah. A $60 video game is mother fucking expensive. Almost "do I need to eat and pay rent this week, or can I afford to play this video game as my one game a year treat?" expensive.

So no, I don't feel offended. I do feel a little pissed though that distributors/developers/whoever take full advantage of it and continue to charge us so much, when there's no difference or real extra cost in for them. Especially on digital distrubtion systems like steam. They're essentially getting 120 american dollars for every game we buy, considering our dollar is stronger/on par as of late. Fuck you distributors/developers/whoever. You can afford to sell your games for $60 over there. What's the fucking difference?

Because it's the first Mortal Kombat in a long time that has been good, plus I don't have many PS3 games I can play with my friends on weekends. The other reason would be because we have no choice in the matter. It's expensive or piracy in here.

Does a game really only cost $60 in USA? I thought I was getting games cheap at 500 sek, but that is like $70! Not to mention that game and gamestop charges 700 sek for a game, which is $100, I suddenly feel used!

From now on I will only buy pre-owned games, Im taking a stand!

Every single time it shits me. You folks in the US don't appreciate how easy you've got it. And don't prattle to me about living costs. If Australia paid $70-75 for a new AAA title I'd be happy, that's a fair compromise. Not double.

Also yes Jim mentioning this also pissed me off a great deal.

i dont get pissed cause there are heaps of reasons for the difference in price. exchange rates, import fees, higher minimum wage in aus, competition etc

but when its a whole different story with digital copies where alot of the reasons dont exist

also i dont get pissed cause game are a luxury item, they are not need or addictive. so if the cost outways the benefit i wont buy it.

quick google. US minimum wage=7 ish dollar. australian is like 15. so US takes like 9 hours to earn a game and Aus takes 7 or 8.

seems about = or better for AUS

I just always read "OMG 60 dollars" as "games be expensive". Americans critisizing the cost of games shouldnt be expected to note the cost elsewhere. We're all in agreement that games are priced too high across the board. Nothing to get upset about. Now if i was american on the otherhand I'd get kinda upset at the abyssmal wages they have to deal with but i guess being Mr World Cop is an expensive pasttime.

They cost double because we get paid double, usually more then double. Australians have it incredibly easy, Americans have it hard.

Someone can't complain about the prices in the US, just because you have it worse? That is quite egocentric.

Well it comes back to the fact that while it's about "3 times more expensive" you Aussies on avaerage earn "3 times as much" so it's a balancing act really isn't it?

it's all relative to your disposable income. I've been saving all my spare cash for 2 months, and I'm still not going to be able to get Skyrim on release day. Then again, I'm broke enough to barely be able to afford groceries, thanks to student loans.

New PC games generally cost the 50 EUR [footnote]rather straight transfer from 300 FIM it used to be with the old currency. 1 EUR = 5,94573 FIM. So the prices haven't really gone up for as long as I can remember.[/footnote] here.

BUT I still do think that's an odd thing to complain about. At least against countries that are greatly more expensive to live in. I bet the difference in a game's prices would be equaled in filling a car's tank with fuel and week's worth of groceries & electricity.

I'm not saying that Australia is a particularly cheap country to live in, but in other countries, there are absolutely necessary things that cost ridiculous amounts. IMO there's more reason to complain about mandatory things' prices, than those of a luxury item, like a video game. I think it is odd that games cost so much there, but it's beginning to get old.

I remember when new PC games were $20 apiece, and you could get the jewel case version for $10 a year later. So yes, I reserve the right to be upset over some doofus in a suit expecting me to pay three times that for the privilege of enduring his PoS game+drm. If he tried to charge me $120 i'd probably start a revolution.
