all that i am going to express right now is about this particular case... or any case involving a 14 year old boy with an older female, scratch that, any case involving a boy that knows about sex and wants to experience it (as in this case, 14 seems like a reasonable age for him to want to have sex)

there is one critical flaw with your idea, "coitus" or "penetration" of anyone (male or female) can be traumatizing if it is without consent, "rape" as it is more commonly refereed is a horrible thing because one is using the other to satiate its sexual urges by invading his/her body, sticking things inside someone else

now, for a male that already wants to have sex being sexually abused is hard, and most males will always feel desire for certain stimulations, he might get out of the whole experience a little perverted, might pick a few kinks like enjoying older women or liking some S&M, but thats about the mental distress he can suffer, he can still function as a whole human being and be an integral part of society, yes there have being cases where kids are traumatized but those cases are from kids that didn't knew what they were doing and couldn't understand what was happening

and this seems like its not the case

http://www.wwu.edu/chw/preventionandwellness/vp_casas_res_mv.shtml

this article explains it really well, but as you can see in the last myth

Myth #7 - If the perpetrator is female, the boy or adolescent should consider himself fortunate to have been initiated into heterosexual activity.

In reality, premature or coerced sex, whether by a mother, aunt, older sister, baby-sitter or other female in a position of power over a boy, causes confusion at best, and rage, depression or other problems in more negative circumstances. To be used as a sexual object by a more powerful person, male or female, is abusive and damaging.
as was stated in the original post, this was not the case

Another site said they were in a sexual relationship for several months, and his mom was the one who reported her. This almost definitely means that she didn't use the alcohol to force him into sex, and that they were both consenting.
so there is no harm done, hell, if the girl was 15 this would be a different story...

She should face Jail Time. I know it was they're saying it was consensual, but if the sex's were reversed, or if it was an older male people would be talking about the 14 year old saying they were mislead or were deceived and on a witchhunt. Just because it's some hot college aged girl doesn't make it any less different than a 40-something Man preying on a pre-teen girl

I think that when people are given the story of an adult female having sex with a minor male, they have a different picture in their head. I.e. it was consentual. Reversed, people will automatically assume it was rape. Also, pre-teen =/= 14

A twenty year old guy got a 14-year-old girl drunk and had sex with her!?

After grooming her for months?!

Oh, wait.

No. She should go to jail as anyone else would.

This is statutory rape, plain and simple.

Statutory rape is very different to other forms of rape, imo (treading lightly here). It pretty much blankets everyone under the age of consent, which varies from country to country, under the assumption that they can't make decisions for themselves. If this had happened in countries such as Spain or Portugal, it would be completely legal (afaik). What makes it any different that it happened in the US (I presume?) apart from the technical legality?

Shouldn't go to jail. Perhaps 'rehab' is the best bet and then this thing can be forgotten.

But really, props to the 14 year old. He must be one handsome dude.

It's quite hard to make an informed decision without knowing exactly what happened and both of their motives

wow this is still going on^^

and i'm still baffled about the amount of people who want to break up this lovely couple by sending one partner to jail
Are you actually being serious?
it's called "being neutral and open minded"
[-]if it didn't hurt anyone there was no crime[/-]
instead now thanks to good ol justice the lives of both persons are destroyed forever

tell me that they would've suffered more if nobody intervened...

edit:
actually i'm gonna take out the phrase "if nobody was hurt there was no crime"
but my point stays valid
we already have laws against forcing or pressuring people into things
and neither applies to this one

I'm sure i've been ninja'd on this by now so i'm not even going to bother putting much effort into it.

[INSERT SOUTH PARK "nice..." IMAGE HERE]

OT: It's illegal and she should go to jail for it. I wish things were done that simply.

It isn't that simple. The law is there to hold something else in place, it isn't a moral in itself.

She should be punished by having an older man get her drunk and take advantage of her.

After watching/reading game of thrones I feel like i should be the one who does this, since I passed the sentence.

Being an extremely horny 15 year old, I must get this out of my system.

Yea, its wrong. But really, I don't care. Congrats kid. I think she should be punished I guess for using alcohol, but jail is a bit to harsh. Probably rehab or something.

Yea, I know if it was in reverse i'd probably be less likely to agree. But cut me some slack. I'm 15. I would KILL to get in this kids position.

It wouldn't be an issue in Germany, either. The only problem would be the booze but that's it.

I really don't get what the fuss is all about. If the two have indeed been in a relationship then I find it silly to punish the girl for anything other than providing the guy with alcohol.
I had a girlfriend who just turned 15 when I was 19 and if I recall correctly her older brother had a girlfriend who was five years younger than he. It's not that uncommon where I live. But I guess it's a different issue in the States what with the much higher consent age and all. Still silly nonetheless.

When I was 14 one of my teachers was ridiculously hot - a european exchange student presumably in her early 20s. Forget the law. I'd have committed crimes to score with her. Seriously.

Screw the double standards argument. Yeah yeah it's logically correct and all that but I don't care. Assuming the kid is hetero then he's no 'victim', he's lived the dream of 99% of 14 year old boys.
