Honestly, I just want the summon animation to be skippable.

Fuck you Knights of the Round!

I probably wouldn't mind a graphical update and a re-translation of the script.

Besides those two, I think everything else is perfectly fine.

If they bring in voice-actors, they better be perfect, or I swear I will give up on SE forever

I hope they don't they should remake a good ff game not a mediocre one like 7
6 and lower already got an updated re-release didn't they?

Don't think 12 needs to be re-released either.

Everything but voice acting could stand to be improved on. When you're remaking something as oft-discussed as FVII, you have a wide range of common complaints that can be fixed to create an upgraded experience in every way: More comprehensible plot, skippable summon animations, and more.

More realistically, a graphical update and re-translation are the only things that can be expected... except apparently even that is too much effort for a multi-billion dollar company in an investment guaranteed to bring in more than it costs. Perhaps after their nap time.

Also, in the spirit of changes, why did Square suddenly decide that Aeris was Aerith? (and by suddenly I mean years ago, but I just never understood why they decided Aerith was better)
I've always been under the assumption that it was ment to be Aerith, but poor translation turned it into Aeris
well Earisu is her japanese name (did have the katakana here but it looks like the site dosent recognise it) which to me translates better as Aeris when saying it, basically its just do you translate su as an s or a th I would go for s most of the time but im not a translator and my understanding of japanese isnt that great.

OT: I Think they should just update the graphics to FFX standard and have different things you can tick to change the game i.e do you want the magic def of armour fixed, what about updated dialogue, voices y/n even the graphics should be able to be changed on the fly and of course have skippable summons, maybe they could also add an option to fix the w-item glitch. An optional reworking of limit breaks would be good as well maybe give Tifa, Red XII and Vincent something decent in this department? same with Ultimate weapons because again Tifas in particular was rubbish same with Vincents unless you abused it when it became godlike thanks to the overflow glitch.

Im not sure how they would update characters like Bugenhagen though as he just floats about which may look strange if the graphics are updated to much. I would be happy with any update though if it turned out crap I still have the original I can play. I really dont think there will be a remake though any time soon they will just keep updating the 2d ones to have 3d graphics first.

EDIT: I would say I think they are scared of remaking VII like it or not its probably their strongest entry in the series in terms of player perception and if they messed it up it could doom the entire series imo.

Apparently 'Aerith' is supposed to sound like 'Earth', because she's an Ancient, and has a connection to the Planet and all that.
I was always told "Aerith" was latin for "heavenly" or something like that. What you say makes more sense though

OT: I'd like graphical updates of course. It's sort of jarring to go from something like Skyrim or MGS4 to FFVII's. I wouldn't necessarily mind voice actors, but it's not necessary. And while I like FFVII's battle system, I could be interested in battles taking place Kingdom Hearts style. But that's probably asking too much

Bring it up to current generation

Voice actors

Make the combat more interesting to watch (so, more cinematic but still basically the same)

And that's it.

I've given up on trying to play FF7. Every time I boot the damn thing up on my PS2 something bad happens, I mean that literally. On the four separate occasions I've tried, the following has occurred within my first hour of gameplay.

  • [li]A twister[/li]
    [li]Power outage[/li]
[li]A twister that passed really close to my house[/li]
    [li]My memory card broke[/li]

Someone, or something, does not want me to ever play FF7. I'm taking the not so subtle hint before a tree falls through my house.

I felt Vincent and Red XIII had decent limits? The only problem with Vincent was you relinquished control of him, but Red's Stardust Ray and Earth Rave where quite powerful and hit multiple times (of course you had to use Howling Moon to unlock Earth Rave, so I could see the problem there)

So, it is beginning to look like Square-Enix is planning a remake of FF7.
One word... bullsh*t.

They'll never remake it, no matter what "evidence" they talk about.

However, on the off-chance they DO remake it, you know full well it'll be turned into one of these crappy action-based rubbish they've made for the series in later years (ie, the same crap they've pulled out their backsides for 11-14)

They already did that when they started making the combat real-time and decided to work on nothing much graphics rather than gameplay and story.

Keep what's good, what MADE it good. Graphical updates are fine and if you want to give 'em the Advent Children voice-actors, then go for it. But don't change it TOO much. To be talked about this many years after its conception and remain so damn popular, it had to be a solid game. The kind of system enhancements I'd go for would be...

{1} Hey, the enemy death spells and bad status abilities work alot. If you want me to devote time to that, GIMME THEM ODDS TOO! I wanna make stuff dead!

{2} Put back in the things that were removed from the english version while keeping our crazy-ass American challenges (The Weapons and such).

{3} Can we make it a leetle easier to find certain enemies that you want to or need to?

Not really Vincents limit breaks are bad because you lost control and you can get him stronger by not using them sure they are helpful early on but are redundant later especially against bosses while ordinary enemies you can kill anyway, Tifas was just bad it took ages to build and didnt even do that much damage unless you landed yeah on all the slots and it was one enemy also it really didnt go with her ultimate weapon. Red XIIs were ok but hardly comparable to Clouds Omnislash, Barrets Ungarmax (which was by far the most powerful except possibly cait siths with the best set up and only a level 3 so it built faster) Yuffies Doom of the living (again level 3) Cait Siths reels (If you knew how to abuse them they were the best hands down, instant death for all) Cids Highwind and Aeris Great Gospel (I had to use cheats to get it though as im not sure its even possible without them.

I disagree 1 had bugger all story and wasnt great in combat 2 was atrocious in everything across the board and was the worst FF game I have ever played 3 was 1 but updated same with 5. 4,6 and 7 were great same with 10 and 8 and 9 were ok 12 was bad 13 was ok the series is all over the place personally the best combat in the series for me is 10 which was ofc entirely turn based but 13s would be the second best once it actually took the training wheels off i.e post game but most of them have been using the ATB system which isnt entirely real time or turn based.

Story wise 4,6,7 and 10 are by far my favourite and 1,2,3 are the worst by far all opinion ofc but change does not necessarily mean bad.

Simply put, yes... 1, 2 and 3 weren't the best of games. 4 onwards was went storyline and gameplay became the better half of the series. However, while it's true that change does not mean bad (again, see 4 onwards since 4 was the first game to have pre-set character classes instead of the class-changing from previous and future titles), it doesn't always necessarily mean good either.
Fine, 11 could have been better... but then, it was their first step into MMOs... so it was expected to be bad and it was expected to have real-time combat so as to make it fair on players. However 12 on the other hand just proved how bad real-time can be. Running around till some random enemy pops up, the "rare" enemies being harder to find (obviously) is one thing. However, just setting up enough auto-action things to have the game play itself just took out all but the exploration of the game. If you set it up well enough, you'd never have to do anything other than buy supplies. That just takes the fun and strategy out of the game. You cannot specifically say that change isn't always bad when you're promoting the part of the game series that caused it to fail, crash and burn. 12 could quite easily been a good game. All they needed to do was make it turn-based with combat. Remove the auto-action BS and make it pause when enemies appeared, have you select your character's attacks and then watch the outcome, having ALL of them (not just the character you're not in direct control of) move around the enemy depending how well you set the AI... If you want an example of this, see Grandia. Alternately have the characters stay still and only the enemies move about. For an example of this, see a previous Square title, Chrono Trigger.
As for 13, well I can complain about gameplay with the obvious of how it was way too linear (given that almost all previous games had free-reign on the world map in some way or the other) and the whole battle system seems like too much of a cut-scene rather than any actual selection of things to tell your characters to do. I can't comment too much as I got bored and pissed off with 13 only a few hours in...

And by the by... the only wheel that 13 got involved with was the stupid summoning system.

"How can we make real-time monsters who are fighting for you more kid-friendly and awesome?"
"I know... we'll make them turn into cars!"

I can assure you, this is how Power Rangers started going downhill... with PR Turbo...

Fixing the poor translations is enough. Pretty sure they're doing that, since text is easy to change in a game like that.

Also, that change alone is enough to call it a remake.

Noooo, they are planning to re-release it on PC. Not remake, re-release. Same old game, same old graphics, same old everything. Just able to run on modern operating systems.

"Now, experience this story of conflict, betrayal and triumph like never before..."

Yea... you mean like when it was released on PS1 or previously released on PC over a decade ago?
