Last week I was with one of my friends near his school, where he gets bullied a lot because he is gay. We were at a park with some other friends and me and three others went to get fish and chips. When we got back some guys from his school had come down and start verbally and physically abusing him. Without thinking I ran over and punch one of the guys from his school and kicked another in the chest. After this they ran off.

What I was wondering is did I do the right thing? my friends were divide, some said I did the right thing, others it wasn't my place or I shoudln't have done anything.
You gotta fight the power man.

I'dd have done it if they were physically hurting him, but I don't know the extent of physical abuse.

I think you definitely did the right thing. If I was the same size as them (unlikely), I probably would have done the same thing. I'm more of a verbal fighter. Mortifying them by showing them just how stupid they are really isn't that hard. :)

Personally, its not my place to pass judgement on your actions.
That being said I probably would have reacted similarly.

I would try to talk them down first...but I would have done the same if talking had failed.

Paraphrasing the Bhagavad-Gita: "To do evil and do nothing is to do evil yourself."

Good on you, man.

Do right by your friends.

Your actions are defensible, words (other than threats) simply don't register with your adversaries in that sort of situation. The alternative, doing nothing, is far worse.

It would be better if you tried talking them out of it first, but your friend was being physically hurt, so you did the right thing by defending him.

Dude, you're a hero man. Maybe you feel bad because you hurt a human being, but they only understood violence and your violence was greater than theirs.

Good job.

Being a Satanist, I say you did the right thing.

So yeah. I'll say it would've probably been better just to come up with some witty argument for lulz, but either way, if you can get them pissed off and leaving, you've succeeded. Good job.

If this were real life, I'd give you a high five, man. Violence isn't usually the best answer to everything, but sometimes, a fist to the face is the greatest communication, and this was one of those times. Good job doing what was right.

Punching was very much appropriate. If you was to try to break it up verbally, you would've failed....miserably.

Yes and no for a couple of one main reason. From your story, I'm assuming you don't go to the same school as your friend, so you may have made it worse. The problem is when he goes back to school you won't be able to protect him there. Your friend needs to be the one to stand up to the bullies, if any thing will ever change. Granted if I was in your position, I would have done the same thing, but your friend needs to fight back also.
