Just wondering from this gaming community how people name their characters or just stick to default names given.
MAJOR EDIT: Ugh, stupid me, accidentally pressed enter.

Anyway, do you choose custom names for your main characters in Final Fantasy? If so, tell me which one and what name.

I stick with the default names because I cant seem to think of any that seem remotely cool. For example, I cannot think of any name that suits Tidus better than Tidus. (Annoying thing though is that on Mt. Gagazet, Seymour forgets your name and just keeps on calling you "Son Of Jecht" :p)

Well, comment away.

Main purpose for this is that in many of my games, I use the default names available (except for pokemon, where I changed my rival's name to a rude word for the lulz (gimme a break, I was like 10). I just want to see the names people come up with.

Naming things after the weather seems logical to me.

Cloud> Sky> Condensation.

In all seriousness. I havn't played FF. So I'll refer to what I usually call me characters: Holy McPointyface.

I usually keep my character's names as they normally are; I'm horribly unimaginative when it comes to character names and if I must, I tend to just name the characters either "Aby" or "Z"

Yea...

lol. its because with voice acting they couldn't say it. they gave you an enter your name function with a game with voice acting and then have voice acting? you could have called it anything. i found it highly amusing that they went thorough the whole game killing enemies left right an center and no one could say your name.

I always use default names. It makes the story feel more real to me.

Same here. I sometimes find it annoying that there is even an option to change them, as there really is no reason for it.

I always use default names in games. For some reason it doesn't feel like I'm playing the game properly otherwise. And like it's been said already, it makes the story feel more real.
Although there are some pretty cool custom names I've seen on youtube. One channel with FFX playthroughs (think it was just called FFwalkthroughs or something) named Tidus "Boner", and the Aeons stuff like "Eggroll", "NutGlaze", "Asshole!" etc. Hehehehe.

Very very first time I played them I used custom names of people I knew, mostly as a bit of a joke (naming Nanaki after someone I hated because I thought he looked like a stupid cartoon dog etc)

Ever since then I've used the default names. I wouldn't go into a novel and scribble out all of the names and replace them with mine, would I?

On my first playthrough I always go with the default names. If I play the game again after that, I just call the characters whatever I feel like calling them at that time.

Giving everyone the same name is always fun. I still fondly remember my FF7 playthrough where I named every single character "Sephiroth".

Well, I'm unimaginative and can rarely think of anything cool to name my characters, so I just name them something funny {And by funny I mean vulgar. And nothing is more immersion breaking than hearing "I love you, Twatty McCumstain!" When the game forces you to name the character, I usually just name them "Mr. Tibbs" so I can imagine people asking my name with my character replying "THEY CALL ME MR. TIBBS!." When the game is a medieval RPG, though, I usually change my name to suit the tone and instead name him "Lord Tibbs" or "Master Tibbs" to suit my mood.

When I played Final Fantasy III/VI on the SNES I decided to rename everything I had the option to. Some I made very minor changes, Terra to Terry, Edgar to Eddy, Locke to Lock (Because I was young and didn't understand why there was an E at the end.) Then others I made more significant changes to like Gau became Ribsy and Cyan was Swordguy (and proceeded to always name Mr. Thou on future plays to make Gau seem to have a better grasp on things).
Besides a few other occasions, I generally use Default names though since I tend to like them better no matter how silly their names are.

I know that. How the hell would they pronounce "ASIRJEDUSL" or any random name that people could come up with. At least they didnt allow you change ALL the character names, that would be such a pain if not a single name is called out throughout the game.

I think Spoony's naming of Riona and her dog win forever.

Sometimes default names, sometimes my own, to, eh, 'immerse' myself further in the story.

Playing Pokemon Yellow recently i called by rival f***bag, and I still manage to laugh out loud every time i encounter him. I always forget and it's just funny to see it there, or if someone else brings him up in a conversation.

I use the default names, but I do have to say, for most FF games the names they are given are as dumb as ones I would give them.

First playthrough keeps the originals intact.

I don't change name much except for the love interest. I usually call the girls "Dalhia". It's a good name and I'll probably name my futur daughter that way (If I ever get kids in the first place).

I often keep the original name just because. what if the game doesn't have a default? then, I just use a respectable name. "Jack Kattick" or "Dante Ghil". in survival crisis z, the interface is utterly retarded for menus. this result in my character being named "3" because tried to change the settings while starting new game. I beat the game like that. honestly, "3" doesn't sound that bad. kind of cool actually. kind of like those symbolic names that show in metal gear solid (they are symbolic right? I haven't actually played them.)
I decided to pretend he was a clone or something. :p
