Default names unless it's Pokemon. Then I go with B**ch, until recently when my friend suggested to go with N***er. Not to be offensive or anything, but when people talk to you or your rival when they're named that and you repeat what they say in your head, it makes me lol.

Again, I do apologise if anyone takes offence to that :(

I always keep the defaults, but once my brother was playing KotOR, and he named hiself Darth Revan (it's supposed to be the big revelation in the middle), and when it was revealed in-game, he had the option to say, and I quote:

'B-but I'm not Darth Revan! I'm Darth Revan!'
I did this exact thing :D

I like the ability to change the name but in most cased I'll keep the default, but one thing I love that Mass Effect and Dues Ex did is giving the voice actors a standrad. In Mass Effect they just say your last name and In Dues Ex they gave you a code name. The two ideas are such a sneaky and genius way to let people customize their characters.

All charters are named questions... starting with "Who", "What", "When", "Where", "Why",
Then I go to useing other type names... "That girl/guy", "Your face"
all because I find it funny...

Who leveled up!

I stick to the default for the first play-through and name them after the nicknames I gave them on the second play-through.
Example: In FFVII, Barrett became Barry, Red XIII became Nanaki, and Vincent became Vinnie.

Fiery McBumpfist tends to be my characters name. My rival name (especially Pokemon) is along the lines of Assface, Assbite or Faghead

Im kinda a dick about this. i either name my characters after their roles in the story, (Main character named "Main Character") their roles in the party,(Main character as "Tank") or swap names with other characters in the party (Cloud as Tifa, Tifa as RedXIII etc...).

I usually keep the default names, but it's fun to try and come up with something more appropriate at times.

Like when my friend was getting started on Final Fantasy IX and had gotten to the part where Zidane and crew decide on an undercover name for princess Garnet. My friend didn't care for the standard option ("Dagger" - really, who could blame him?)

So I suggested "Wedgie", in honor of her extremely tight-fitting pants.

Also, when the time comes to think of a name for Amarant, I usually name him "Fart". This makes his introductory line (which follows immediately) extraordinarily funny.

On my FF10 playthrough, I named the aeons stupid and amusing names, and all was well, seeing as how their names really weren't ever brought up except for picking my summon choice.

On my first FF7 playthrough, I named all of the playable characters stupid stuff... and I found that about halfway through the game, I really regretted it. I feel as if the story would have immersed me more if Aerith were stabbed instead of SlumDrunk, and Cloud, Tifa, and RedXIII mourned instead of BillyHatcher, *****, and Gay Lion.

Sigh.
