Ugh. I dunno... I rented it off gamefly and I've really been trying to enjoy but something about it just makes me want to send it back half finished and get something else...

It's not that it's a bad game. It's just... Not good. The music is ok. Some of it is actually pretty catchy but for the most part it's nothing I haven't heard done better. The combat would probably appeal to people who like a more fast paced experience but I personally like to take my time and think through my battle strategy. Although, some battles pretty much force you to mash auto battle until you win. The character customization is practically zero. I mean the crystarium is just one linear path that you dump CP into until you run out.

It really looks really nice though. But what really starts to get annoying is when it seems like they're trying to draw your attention to the graphics so you hopefully won't notice the rest of the game... Sazh in particular comments on how beautiful the scenery way more than is necessary.

Well since I think the series has taken a nose dive ever since 12 I may be a bit biased, but the characters are retarded, it's linear as hell, story was a a waste and only being able to control 1 person was a deal breaker for me. I will never play another FF until they fix a lot of things.

Most of it is you watching a computer play a game.....oh, right, you can change how they fight too. Very interactive.
Honestly I think this would have been more enjoyable as a movie. That being said, the story wasn't terribly interesting to me. My main beef with the game is the lack of game, and Vanille. I just hated her.
I still am looking forward to FF14 though, and even Versus. Versus looks like an earnest to goodness action romance.

I enjoyed it... To a point. I lost interest in the game when I reached Gran Pulse. I don't know what it was, but I just found that it didn't work, and that it was really just a bunch of corridors placed next to each other, and I felt that if I was going to run down a corridor, it might as well just lead to some progression, and another corridor. So yes, I enjoyed it, but I stopped liking it when everyone else said that it got good (To give you an idea, I played and enjoyed FF 7 and 8, but never finished either, and I typially enjoy exploring in games like Fallout (sadly only number 3, as I am very much a child of the nineties, meaning I only remember things from the noughties)).

I can't really go with any of the poll answers. I didn't really enjoy it as much as others because the combat is fairly uninvolved most of the time and the lack of the big cities and the fact that it is very linear sort of made me enjoy it less than others. But it isn't entirely horrid. I'm sort of enjoying the story more than say VIII.

Final Fantasy 13 was the first Final Fantasy to be so boring and pointless to me that I couldn't be botherd to finish it. Belive me, I tried but I wasn't having FUN. If a video game cant be fun then it's not doing its job. Also it's characters are the worst of any FF game. Even worse than FF9.

You mean the kid who wanted to be a Blitzball in Killika? Seriously, was that intentional?
I always wondered that myself. Final Fantasy has always been plagued by translation errors (my favourite one is still "Off course!" in FFVII), but that one was pretty damn egregious. There's no way that *no one* caught that throughout production.

I'm enjoying it but I can see why a lot of people don't. My biggest complaint is that it's all too linear, one of my favourite bits of FF as a series is being able to wander off and do my own thing. So yeah, out of the ones i've played (VII, IX, X, X-2, XII) this is my least favourite but I think the biggest crime it commited is being not as good in a hugely successful franchise.

I did like it however there were many things that infuriated me about it as it had the potential to be the best yet.
Story- v good
character development- v good

however the paradigm system was awful as it took too much control away from the player. the fact the training wheels did not coome off until chapter 11 as pre 11 was a walk in the park. the useless weapon upgrade system. they would have been better off having less items to fuse with but each item giving a different perk upon use for example use a certai ammount of conducters= atb up.

far to linear, i get that they were on the run but that does not mean the could not sneak into cities or use some imagination. also just because they are on the run does not mean we dont want to explore the areas we are in. oh yay you gave us gran pulse, big deal 11 chapters too late. also side quest that do not involve go to area A and kill monster B.

there are other things that are wrong however to summarise. good effort bad execution.

Liked it...didn't love it. And usually I love Final Fantasy.

Battles just got a bit dull. I could pretty much just go A A A A A A A YEAH I DID 800,000 damage!!!

Apart from that, story is good, graphics are nice. Characters are ok. My party was just Fang, Hope and Lightning pretty much all the way through. Occasionally Snow for defence or Vanille for Death.

I loved it. Yes it was linear, yes the characters were obnoxious early on, yes the combat could use some tweaks. But I didn't mind, enjoyed the story and had a blast playing it.

I really liked the characters and to a point even the story. But I constantly felt like I was being chased by everyone, because I never had time to breathe or stop. Which worked for some time because that was pretty much what the story was about.

But I got really tired of it eventually. Getting to the village in Gran Pulse was the final drop. Until that point I was expecting to find any place to draw a breath and maybe even meet some friendly people or anything. But of course it had to be a fucking ghost town with only monsters in it.

After that point I just didn't care anymore. After that I just wanted to finish the game and be done with it. And that's pretty much what I did.

I also liked the combat, but the eidolon system was total crap. As was the totally linear leveling up and the weapon upgrade system.

Oh yeah, and I loved FF XII. I really don't understand why people hate it so much :)

I enjoyed it a lot. However, I probably won't be replaying it because the linearity would get boring the second time around, since I would already know what would happen. To be honest, the story is really what kept me pushing through the game at that point.

Not the best FF game, but not horrible.

I have no intention of playing XIII because of the travesty that was XII. Somewhere around the time that X-2 came out, Square decided to change their demographic from gamers to Hot Topic customers. Now I want to blame Sephiroth-tards for this, I have to accept the fact that it's Square's fault for sounding the Final Fantasy death-knell with X-2.

While I have not played this game, this was the first time that I know of that Square made a direct sequel to a Final Fantasy title. This of course, opened the door for Square to pursue even higher levels of failure with all of the spin-offs and sequels they have made in the last 7 years.

In a sense, it's almost smart because they don't have to create any original characters or storylines figuring "Hey, Nintendo does it and they're successful!" and this is true. However, Final Fantasy built it's reputation on not doing this and by doing so, they alienate their original fanbase who originally would have bought a title based on the fact that it was branded "Final Fantasy". These days, there are too many half-assed, derivative titles being released as "Final Fantasy" titles.

XIII seems like a marmite game

All i see is people hating it or loving it or sometimes being the extreme middle

One day, I randomly pre-ordered FFXII impulsively and loved it. I did the same with FFXIII to discover it might as well be the complete opposite; it was extremely linear, the combat was boring and repetitive until all the characters were assembled and I could actually use the paradigm system properly (about 20 hours in - not good!) I've never much cared for sitting through hours of cutscenes so I skipped most of them after the first 10 hours cos I couldn't tell what was going on anyway, and some of the enemies take far too long to kill. I said this in a different forum; towards the end it takes about 10 minutes to kill one enemy, and about an hour to defeat bosses - if you don't die from a cheap shot to the party leader!! There were bits I really enjoyed, I just didn't see why I had to sit through lots of stuff I hated.
