Hmm, it appears ram has taken a nose dive price was in the past year. I never said upgrading your current machine was in violation of liscence agreement. Installing on more than one PC at a time however is.

Couch does not equate to part of a console. Consoles are self contained, that's part of their cost efficiency. If you start throwing in things like... couch, then we're going to have to count your computer chair and computer desk into the equation. I'm going to go ahead and assume you spent at least 400$ on the initial pc you're "upgrading." So once again, 600$ vs 300$.

Many games share GPU and CPU processing. Most MMO's or anything that renders a large open space, any RTS where you have many units occupying the screen at the same time. Games almost never use the GPU exclusively, and most of the time your game performance is bound not by your video card, but by your shoddy processessor.

Look PC gaming is more expensive than console gaming. It just is. End of story. I prefer PC gaming, but i'm not going to lie to myself and say that its cheaper.

Oh boy, the consoletards are now trying to talk math. Uh oh. Put down the bong man. The fact of the matter is PC gaming is cheaper than console gaming. There is no denying it. I don't know where they people are getting their hardware specs and prices from (maybe Australia) but one can build a very fast machine capable of playing Crysis (which is the most demanding game on the market) for very little money. Want proof.

$520.00 for a machine capable of running Crysis on high settings at a very playable frame-rate. And you can get XP for less than $75 through legit channels. And no, you can technically put it on as many systems as you want. Check with the copyright office. How do I know, because I just put one together for my nephew. The consoletards are getting dumber by the day.
The price of knowledge consoles are still tech from 2006 even low end (2009) pc hardware has far more power but requires user imput and knowledge to know how not to get ripped off.
$520 is comfortably more than a console if you are a first time buyer but upgrades often are cheaper since games are GPU bound.

Feel free to quote any part of my posts in this thread claiming PC gaming is cheaper than current crop of consoles

It's a lot easier and enjoyable to play FPSs on the PC, the movement motion is a lot more fluid and realistic. FarCry 2 is a prime, prime example of this.

Console FPSs are plagued with awkward movements and controls if you're not used to the controllers (took me a week to get used to BFBC when I first got my 360), and they compensate this with autoaim (the favourite word of every 11-year old P90 whore in CoD4). Not the best, but it works.

until a console has a mouse or something like that, besides and analog stick, the PC will win

I used to prefer the pc controls, but recently the ease and portability of the console controller has really attracted me. It's just much more comfortable.

Here is the problem with that logic. The majority of people already own a PC so you can't simply include the entire price for a comparison. It is poor logic. What you can do is compare the gaming components. We are basically talking about a graphics card and extra memory. Both of which are fairly cheap. The $100 9800GT I linked is more than capable of playing anything out there right now and will play anything that comes out for the next two to three years. To turn your average CP into a gaming computer only requires about $120. That's it. Throw in the fact that online play is free, the games are cheaper and drop in price faster, and it is indeed considerably cheaper to play games on a PC than a console.

Which do people prefer to play first person shooters on? I'm a console boy, however my friend is a Pc fan. I just find it alot easier on the consoles.
Buy your friend an ice cream sandwich for being correct. Then, go to the river and sit on the bench and stare off into the water as you contemplate your life. Skip some stones across the water, perhaps. Squat down in the sand and look at your reflection in the water. Sigh, deeply. Cleanse yourself of your thoughts. Then, never allow them to return again.

Consoles seem to work brilliantly for FPS and racers, and pcs are great for strategy and whatnot. Thats just how it is for me.

I prefer consoles, though aiming is better on the PC, in return to castle wolfenstien I had the HARDEST time trying to shoot an enemy while trying to open a door. The keys are too spread out and I need complete control over where im going.
Everything thing is there on a controller, it sort of fits for me during an FPS.

FPS are much better on PC simply to due to the fact that the mouse can be faster and more accurate than an analog stick.

Anyone who claims different simply never plays FPS games on the PC (and yes... I play some console FPS exclusives).

Also... there are less limitations for controls on a keyboard.... such as the elimination of the "lean" function in F.E.A.R. 2 (as I saw in the demo).... apparently there aren't enough buttons on a gamepad for that.

Plus... PC technology can always be constantly improved... allowing for better looking/smoother FPS games. For example, Crysis was released before almost anyone had a good enough PC to play it. Mine is almost there....

The only thing I'd say Consoles have over PC is.... when you buy a game... you KNOW it will run.... and that's a damn good feeling.

I lolled at the idea of PC upgrades being more expensive than buying a console.

To make my old Athlon 3000+ GeForce 2 MX and 512 RAM DDR into a demon (okay, not THAT much of a demon) that could run Assassin's Creed effortlessly. It costed me about 1000 PLN. PS3 has been 1700 PLN since I can remember. Okay, the price dropped to 1600 last price update. But Xbox 360 is still cheaper, even in Elite version.

But to make my PC more powerful than PS3, I would just have to buy a new motherboard supporting Quads. And MAYBE more RAM.

Also, games on consoles are much more expensive. The cheapest I've found was Ninja Gaiden 2 for 130 PLN. But that's the most you would pay for a PC game...

Nope. When an engine is busted up, you don't run it well. And you won't, because you can't upgrade your console.

Oh, right. I don't have to upgrade my XP for the next.. 5 years. If you have Vista, it's 3 years. Because technical support ends then.

I don't have to. But to run new games on a new console, you have to buy it. And you can't be sure that it has backward compatibility.

You guys realize that a machine that can play any FPS worth playing on PC only costs like 400 dollars, right?
