Guns should only be used in self defense and people with a mental illness should not be carrying them.

Gun laws in the US are mostly fine... the only thing I'd change is the addition of training and licensing required for ownership, broken down by the type of firearm. Too many untrained idiots own guns these days.

The right to bear arms is a term that gets tossed around a lot when debating gun control laws. It was put in the constitution when guns were inaccurate had an ammo capacity of one and took two minutes to reload. How do you think it should be implemented today?
The first Amendment was made back when the most advanced media technology was a hand cranked printing press. So is the First Amendment equally as irrelevant? I mean you could easily site the negative influence of Nazi propaganda if you felt so inclined.

Are you saying the First Amendment should not protect violent video games because they didn't have video games back in 1791 when the US Bill of Rights was ratified?

It is quite clear what the spirit of the 2nd Amendment and 1st Amendment are, which are not limited to 18th century technology.

And you're wrong. They already were experimenting with concept of guns that could fire multiple times. Look up, among other inventions, organ guns. The metallurgy and machining capacity was merely not present yet.
You can't factor in speculative tech. We have some ridiculously goofy sci-fi speculative tech, but we have no way of knowing if something will come of it.

The closest to my opinion on guns was 'anything short of a nuke' because civilians need to have the power to overthrow their gov't if it becomes tyrannical and all that.
edit: Love the title, it can be a typo or a pun

I think Chris Rock put it best.

We don't need gun control. What we need is ammo control. :D

Make a bullet cost several thousand dollars. I'd like to see rampant gun violence then. >:3

It's a joke of course, but I do like how without thinking about it too much it seems like it could work. :D

I think we should outlaw concealed carry, and replace it with open carry, for two reasons: one, it's just incredibly dangerous to have people running around with guns when it's not obvious to bystanders that they have them, and two, concealed carry is useless for self defense anyway, because it slows down access to the weapon. It's pretty much only useful in an offensive situation (so, you know, the opposite of what it's supposed to be used for), whereas with open carry, you might have a chance to actually draw on that mugger.

As for the rest of it, people really don't need access to assault weapons. But damn it if they aren't fun to shoot; maybe outlaw private possession, but allow a special permit that rifle range owners can get to rent them out for range time? That would fix the "Sure I don't need it, just like car owners don't need a Lamborghini, but they're still fun to drive" argument.
