Personally I would like the game to be functional more than I would want it to be pretty. Don't get me wrong, they're both important, but the main point of a game is, y'know, being able to play it.

Story and gameplay are what matter to me. So long as the graphics are competent (more than 4 colours, not glitchy), it's not an issue.
In fact, the perfect graphics in my eyes are the PS1 pixel graphics. *hugs PS1*

Gameplay is the most important thing! That's why I still go back to my old PC games from way back when, such as Broken Sword, and Commander Keen!

For me it's all about the gameplay.
Good graphics are a perk, not an essential, in my opinion.

Thats a bit like rockstars problem with Grand Theft Auto 4, as it lacks gameplay because the graphics are advanced from the other "GTA" saga. The story is long and gets boring, its all a big repeat of killng a guy or two then outrunning the cops! This just didn't make it for me, where as the DLC for it "TLAD" was best suited to me as it was short and well spread-out.

graphics arent half as important as most people think they are. i prefer a good playing game, even if it is pig ugly, i still enjoy it if it has good gameplay.

The question is horribly black and white; that said, I highly value graphics because I adore games with life, colour and personality. I just played through Crash 2 and it's full of excellent animations, bright, detailed levels and cute and distinctive enemies. As far as I'm concerned it will continue to look good for years to come, despite being a PSone game, simply because of the little details. LittleBigPlanet, Loco Roco and Patapon had me laughing happily all afternoon simply by being too charming for words. I'm as interested in games for their depictions of other realities and non-real things as much as for the gameplay, so in that sense graphics mean a very great deal to me. A bad game is still a bad game of course, but I can forgive a game a few poor points if I'm rewarded visually.

I prefer setting tbh. My fav games are always ones with incredible settings/backstory.
i suppose gameplay comes next on the list.

Gameplay. I actually refuse to buy a game that boasts its graphics in its advertisements.

I look for quality Game-play. But if the Graphics are so bad that it detracts from the experience, that is when Graphics become important.
You sir, are thoroughly correct. Even if the game-play is good, if all I'm thinking while playing is "My GOD this looks awful", then I'm not going to enjoy the game, regardless of its game-play.
Case in point, most play-station original games.

Gameplay, I'd rather have it be easy to play and fun rather than wicked good graphics
