Crysis 2 is less demanding than 1, Metro, whilst lovely, is badly optimised and you'd be hard-pressed to find anything in a reasonable price range that runs it on max - as well as the difference in settings being hardly noticable. Besides I was arguing that it runs them better than averagely - not metro on max good, but still far better than average, but metro is just a retarded standard to set. At least if you're going for a good framerate.

Well, only in that they use Clevo shells like Sager do.
I was under the impression that Sager and Clevo basically were the same company these days. I am perfectly willing to accept that Sagers are Clevo shells though.

I have been thinking of getting a new computer as well, and while I've considered building my own with my rotten luck I would cross two wires and blow myself and the computer up. That being said I was thinking of purchasing a Sony - VAIO L Series All-In-One Computer / Intel Core i7 or a Toshiba - All-In-One Computer / Intel Core i7 Processor, but I can't tell which is truly superior when it comes to their graphic's card.

T___T I am a really sad little gamer gal, lol.

Crouchingtigress: in my experience, the Sony branded computers are often more overpriced than the Alienware.

OK so you've got a laptop. Now lets plug in a keyboard you can actually play with and a decent mouse (I still dont believe you can play with a trackpad even though several of my mates claim they do.) Now plug in a decent sized screen so you can see what youre playing. See where I'm going with this? OK so you're more or less using your laptop as a PC. Now a new game comes out that requires a slightly better graphics card. Better buy a new one OH WAIT YOU CAN'T. Nor can you put in a better processor and sometimes even increases to the RAM are limited. Time to chuck it and get a new one.

Oh and if you get a build, don't buy one of the brands who make all their own components 'cause you'll have to keep going back to them if you want to change anything and chances are they'll be charging twice the going rate for one that they don't class as incompatible.

Desktop and don't get a pre-built one. You CAN get a laptop but a desktop will be much more affordable and you'll get better specs for your dinero.

I didn't vote, because really it depends a lot on what you want to do with it.

When I graduated from high school my family all pitched in and bought me an Alienware M9750 gaming laptop since the university I was going to be attending was far away from home. The idea was that with a gaming laptop I'd be able to take it home with me on school vacations. For that purpose, I'll admit, it was goddamn awesome. Even while at school it still had its benefits. For one, it was a hell of a lot easier to pack when lugging all my crap to and from school every year. I also really liked having it because it meant my roommate (who also had an Alienware M9750) and I could attend our guild's raid night while still hanging out in the residence hall lounge with our friends instead of being anti-social in our rooms.

That's not to say there weren't downsides. For one thing, those Alienware laptops put off A LOT of heat. You've gotta be ridiculously careful not to block the vents, and having a cooling mat of some sort is a definite plus (which can admittedly be kind of expensive, but if you've got the money to afford an Alienware, it's probably not outside your monetary reach and most definitely a smart investment). They're also more difficult (and more expensive) to keep current with new parts, so they get pretty rapidly outdated, which isn't too good for a system that costs as much as an Alienware.

When I graduated and returned home, the first thing I started saving up my money for was a custom-built gaming desktop. I ended up with a system exponentially more powerful than that Alienware M9750, and it was roughly $1500 cheaper (and that *is* including peripherals like keyboard, mouse, headset, and monitor). I've had that desktop for about a year and a half now and I'm still running brand new games at maximum settings, which is something I couldn't say about my Alienware M9750 laptop after the same period of time.

So in the end, the Alienware laptop was great for travel and portability, but completely outclassed by my desktop in just about every single other way. Take that for what you will.

Desktop, Desktop, Desktop,

Far more bang for your buck and upgrading will save you tons of money in the long run vs buying a new computer.

However if you really want a Laptop and have $3,000 to burn buy the [a href="http://www.razerzone.com/blade"]Razer Blade[/a], as far as gaming computers go it looks to be the top dog when it finally hits the market in Q4.

I prefer this chart, http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2011-gaming-graphics-charts/Gamer-Index,2673.html.

Important note, the AMD 6950 2GB (not the 1gb) can be unlocked and brought up the the 6970 specs (saves almost $100).

if your going to put mac on, you might as well include microwave oven as well.

desktop all the way. i don't really see the point of having a really top of the line laptop. unless you travel A LOT, like, i dunno a famous scientist who lectures at universities all over the planet.

It's sad to say that Alienware just wasn't the same after Dell bought them. But a gaming desktop will always perform better than a gaming laptop with the same specs. Mobile components don't have as much horsepower and always run hotter which lower their performance as well. If you really want to make a good gaming PC avoid alienware and build one yourself. Unless you like the look and are willing to pay the price for it.

Can't understand why Mac is an option.
Didn't you know that Mac is a legitimate gaming platform now ;)

Desktop for gaming. Not Alienware. Overpriced for the specs. I was very scared of building my own but it's easier than it sounds and you get a better PC for less.

My desktop equivalent from Alienware costs $1,299. It cost me $450.

laptop because
1. cheaper
2. i (used) to travel alot, it was more convienient
3. i didn't have a spot i could put a desktop
4. cheaper
5. didn't cost as much
laptops are never cheeper

unless this was a deal from a buddy(second hand laptop) you might want to check the specks for the PC you were comparing it to as Laptops tend to run about $400-$600 more for comparable parts

Edit: Found your above post
as Dell runs the same deals for there laptops all the time

current $1100 laptops are
Alienware M11x

500gb harddrive
6gigs of ram
1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M

XPS 17

1TB hardrive
6gb of ram
1GB NVIDIA GeForce® GT 550M

current $1100 destops are
XPS 8300
2TB hardrive
12GB of ram
Nvidia® Geforce® GT530(onbord memory not stated but comes in 1 or 2 gb)

AW dose not have a 1100 kit that i can find they simply start at 1300 water cooled simalar spec to the labtops

so unless you were comparing AW to AW its never going to be cheaper as the cooling system is what drives up the price

Gaming laptops are a joke. Put good hardware in a modern, slim laptop, and you're asking for heat dissipation issues.

Build a desktop, or if you must have it built for you, order a custom system from a local shop. Either way, research your hardware. No point having a gaming system if you don't know what's in it... and many pre-built systems out there come to you with components that don't play nice with each other.

desktop no contest,

my desktop (no brand, built by me) out performs my m8's alienware lappy across the board even though on paper his lappy is slightly better.

the only real advantage the lappy has is portability.

if u are thinking of getting a lappy check this out:

it was an employee discount with a company that reduced the price of dell laptops significantly.

Crysis 2 is less demanding than 1, Metro, whilst lovely, is badly optimised and you'd be hard-pressed to find anything in a reasonable price range that runs it on max - as well as the difference in settings being hardly noticable. I'm sorry but I have to call you on that. Crysis 2 in DX 11 and with the texture pack is easily more demanding than Crysis 1. The two Nvidia 285's I had, could deal with Crysis 1 with everything turned up to full, whereas my two Nvidia 570's can only just deal with Crisis 2.

And the caricaturisation that Metro is unoptimised is the same idea that was used for Cyrsis 1, that did not stop it from becoming a benchmark. So metro 2033 is a perfectly valid benchmark.
