I don't understand how that comment has anything to do with Devs hating customers, but I'll bite.
I don't think there has been a shift at all for the past ten years. Yeah, back in the NES days the good games kinda seemed like they were being made for fun instead of profit, but that was before money had really any impact at all.
I think you're wrong in general. They put love into their works and you can tell. If the customer ever got in the way of their money, it was tough luck for the customer.
