At the risk of bringing nothing to this topic, the last thread like this spiralled out of control. Let's not have a repeat eh?

Legally, I don't have a problem, although I'd prefer the term union rather marriage. However religious institutions should be allowed to deny the use of a church for the ceremony and should be allowed to deny the religious ceremony.

Doesn't really affect me so I'm pretty indifferent. I'm not religious either so let gay people get married if they want. They should be allowed to express their love in the same way as everyone else I think.

If they want to then whatever. I believe in it in the legal sense (in that they're two people who can have joint assets and the like) but not in the religious sense because practically every religion opposes it so I'd just say it's hypocritical. Not that they can't be religious, but really they've gotta organise their own religion if theyre not going to play by the rules of other religions...

Yet, we all know that that is likely to happend, like when the atheists tried to take the word god of the the "pledge of allegiance".
Not particularly. Though there are extremists in almost every point, you don't blame the entire group for their antics. Until people come bashing my door down asking me to paint rainbows on the walls, people can go fuck whoever they want.
Yes, dont we all love paedophilia... Sorry, I totally agree with what you meant to say... "...whoever they want WITH VALID CONSENT"

People wanted to do that because it wasn't in there originally, but only added in the 1950s.

I don't really care. Only time I do care is when people get in my face over such matters, then I tell them to bog off.

People should be free to make choices like that since religion is no longer a part of culture, however one partner is a part of human nature so marriages should stay. But I've got better things to do that preach to thick skulled church goers about what to think.

If allowing gay marriage means that the gay community will stop complaining about it then yes, I'd vote for it.

Sure, why not - go for it. Don't see any problem with this. In fact I see this as a positive for two reasons:

1. It will really piss of religious crazies.
2. Same rights for everybody.

They should try found a new religion where gay marriage is permitted, and just get 'that' ceremony. No one can complain then.

Honestly, if it's not hurting anyone, and it makes them happy, I don't see the problem. I also don't really give a shit if they call it "marriage" or "domestic partnership". Because if both parties get the same rights, then you changing the name of the 'event' is just plain denial.

Two questions:

1. When you say "don't rub it in my face", do you mean it like the same way when heterosexual married couples go off after the ceremony in their ribbon clad cars and beep at everyone who go by to 'express' their happiness?

2. How exactly can they get you to 'follow' them...? Are you afraid that with homosexuals getting the same rights as normal married couples they might somehow force you to become gay and then marry some other guy...? Your point is lost to me.

I really think you have to be pretty off the wall if you're against it. I myself am homophobic, and i hope people understand the word before throwing it around like some idiots out there who thinks it means the same as racist.....oh what the hell here it is. "pho⋅bi⋅a   /ˈfoʊbiə/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [foh-bee-uh] Show IPA
?noun a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it." there you go, and yes I am for gay marriage, everyone deserves equal rights and I've been married for 6 years and trust me if your argument against gay marriage is some BS about the "sanctity" of marriage, then go ahead and turn on your television and watch how many heterosexual people sell out their marriages for sponsor money on the bachelor or who wants to marry my useless son or something along the lines, so get off your highhorse if anything gay people deserve it more than we do.

It's ridiculous that we still have legal unions and religious ones intertwined several hundred years after the supposed divorce of church and state. Fix that, and the religious folks can keep their ceremonies gay free while gays can enjoy the legal status of marriage. Everyone's happy, and homosexuals can continue to try to be accepted as human beings.
Unfortunately, we (i'm assuming you, too) live in America, we barely follow our constitution, and are farly religious based on Christianity, which has so far... solved no real issue facing our society today, so.. yea.

Actually, that ran for some 40 some pages with little flaming. I thought that one did rather well.

I agree the marriage isn't a christian dominated term any longer. However a lot of people that I know (okay.. just my old uncles and grandpas who watch FOX)say that it would be the death of Jesus if gay people would be married by the choice. IF they just take out the word marriage then no one would get in a tizzy.
Except the countless people who want to married.

Anyway, isn't Jesus already dead?

I don't believe in any form of modern marriage. Paying a "fee" for a license that says you love each other and want to live together is rather ridiculous to me (I probably phrased that wrong XD).

I don't think it should be termed marriage as that's a religious thing. However, I do think that the same legal rights should apply for their partnerships.

I think Jon Stewart said it best when he said: "I was really against gay marriage, until I found out that I could stay married to my wife."

Honestly, I was surprised to find out they couldn't, that was years before it became an issue.
That said, I kind of hope the homosexuals can put that issue to the side if only to get the neo-cons to stop whining about it; I honestly think they make a bigger deal about it than the gays do, which says all sorts of weird things about them.
