Alright, I recently turned 18 (on the 11th) and my dad is letting me get a tattoo. This was no surprise for me, so I have thought on it long and hard, and decided that I would tribute one of my tattoos to something I love. I have narrowed it down to three choices.

1. For my right hand.

2. On neck.

3. On forearm/back.

So, I've come to gather a census from my fellow Escapists, to see what they think, or even if they recognize the symbols. Also, if you have any geeky tattoos, show em off or talk about em!

Tattoos are supposed to mean something, something personal and representative of your personality.

Gaming emblems are a far cry from anything like that...

Damn, know you've reminded me about all that melodramatic bullshit that so often appears on Amercian tattoo shows.

Damn you!

Then perhaps you do not play the right games.

Some fiction can be much more inspiring than your every-day life. Good fiction can teach you something about yourself. Only the second symbol relates to gaming, anyway. Don't be such a prude. :p

Tough choice. I'm torn between the Foxhound logo and the Mandalorian Skull... I'd go with the Skull.

I've considered getting the Black Mesa symbol.

EDIT: Also your dad's letting you get one. My parents flipped the hell out when my Sister got a tattoo. However her's was the logo of some Rum brand. I guess that speaks to her personality?

It's not a matter of being a prude. Tattoos are for life (unless you get that expensive laser surgery), what you like now, you may not like in 20 or 30 years and you'll look back and wonder why the hell you did it.

for a first tattoo steer clear of getting your hands done. also on your hands detailed work can bleed really bad (as in the ink goes blurry as hell) because ur hands move so much. which game though means the most to you. i have a manga themed half leg sleeve so im all for geek tattoos

And in 30 years time MGS will still be awesome. Unless Kojima goes all George Lucas and pussy's up the franchise.

I'd probably go for the Mandalorian skull, but not too big, or it'll look really rough.

You might want to think very carefully about tattooing a game-related symbol onto yourself though. If you're only 18, you'll probably have that tattoo for another 50 years. By then, the games will have been long forgotten, and I wonder if you'll regret it.

Speaking of possibly geeky tattoos, I have a line drawing of an R22 helicopter on my wrist, because that's what I learned to fly in.

I don't know what any of those symbols are but from an outsiders perspective I think the skull is coolest if a bit gothic. However, if the fox one didn't have the oval border I'd like it better.
I doubt that I would get a gaming tattoo, maybe a science tattoo like DNA or something.

Go for foxhound, i don't even see the need for a discussion. Foxhound is the clear winner out of that selection.

Also remember the wise words of my tattoo obsessed friend "Every good geek needs a game tattoo."

My tastes don't change...ever.

Or rather, I don't think they ever will.

For one, the King of Hearts logo is badass enough that I'm pretty sure most people would pick it even if they didn't know where it was from.

Metal Gear Solid has taught me so many different ways to look at the world. The series that taught me my love for 'the grey area' is unlikely to leave me.

The third is Star Wars, I've loved Star Wars since I was 2 and chewing on toy lightsabers. I love Star Wars so much, that I'm going off to work on Star Wars once out of college.

it's not like I haven't thought about this stuff, man. This has been knocking around my head for a year now.

I can see you've put some thought into the latter two, I was just assuming that because you're 18, you were getting a tattoo for the sake of getting one (like my idiot sister).

Apologies.

No harm done, man.

Glad that you even looked at the thread at all, in the first place.
