for real though getting a tattoo on the back of your hand is not only hard to hide for a job interview, it also is one of the most painful for a first tattoo i'd go with a fleshy area easy to hide with a shirt.

EDIT: the burning you feel will not just the awesome power.

Im thinking about getting Peter Molyneux's face tattooed on my ass for what he did to Fable, 3 sucked.

OT: the tattoo Ive always wanted was from a resident evil game, forgot which one, but it was a sleeve and it said Mother Love in tribal... however, ive grown up and if i want a job in national security, i can not have tattoos like that...

Pondering: maybe i can have a nice Yakuza style tattoo, you know, you can wear a suit and no one knows...

Damn you!
I have to agree with this. You may love whatever game right now, but how much will you love it in 30-40 years? If you truly do love them then whatever, just be smart about the placement. Getting a huge ass Foxhound tat on your neck is likely to hurt you when it comes to employment opportunities.

I don't think you should get the skull as how long you'll love the image is questionable where as the King of Hearts tattoo is more likely to be something you'll be less likely to stop liking as you grow older.

I was going to get a Dragon tattoo but I didn't for this reason (ended up with a Cheshire Cat tattoo there instead)

Skull. Nothing beats Boba Fett (Not even a Sarlacc).

My friend now has a SNES controller on his right arm and Midna on his left.

I love tattoos and I think that if you want a gaming tattoo then just go for it.

That said, I certainly would suggest that you hold off getting anything done on your hand or neck.

At 18 you have your whole life ahead of you.. plenty of time to get yr neck or hands tattooed, but in the meantime you have to deal with what people think of you, especially if you're trying to get a job or something. I know it's shit, but people will judge you if you have an exposed tattoo, particularly on your neck or hands.

Something else to consider, big black tattoos are difficult to cover if you get bored of them in the future.

My philosophy with tattoos is pick something, print it out/draw it out, and stick it on your computer monitor or drawing desk or refridgerator or whatever and if you still like it in a couple years, go for it.

I have a Guinness Harp tattooed on my left pectoral, which is both symbolic of my love of Guinness and my father, aptly nicknamed Guinness Dave. While an alcohol symbol might be silly for some, it is meaningful to me and my relationship with my father.

Whichever one you get make sure that you have very strong personal meaning behind it. I got the Triforce set in an olive wreath just a couple weeks ago and while it represents my love for games, I also love what the Triforce stands for and that's why I got it.

Neck and forearm tattoos, what do you plan on doing with your life, career-wise?
My thoughts exactly. You're pretty much broadcasting "lower-class" to the world by getting a tat that's conspicuous. There's a good reason why people generally get tattoos that are easily concealed by even casual clothing, since you may not think so now, but a decade down the road when you're looking for a quality person to have kids with, your career prospects WILL matter even to the least gold-diggerish of girl.

Alright, I recently turned 18 (on the 11th) and my dad is letting me get a tattoo. This was no surprise for me, so I have thought on it long and hard, and decided that I would tribute one of my tattoos to something I love. I have narrowed it down to three choices.

1. For my right hand.

2. On neck.

3. On forearm/back.

So, I've come to gather a census from my fellow Escapists, to see what they think, or even if they recognize the symbols. Also, if you have any geeky tattoos, show em off or talk about em!

-LnP

Im rly into colourfull oldschool kinda tattoos myself :p but idd say U should decide yourself because if you need someone elses help deciding then its probobly not something you want to have for the rest for your life.. :) Style wise idd go for the skull because its rather simplistic and doesnt look too "gamey" :p butyeah decide for urself bro

Okay, I've managed to bite my tongue thus far into this thread, but CHRIST this needs to stop people.

I am a successful man, my wife is a successful woman. I am self-employed and work as a rep and give talks, amongst other things, my wife is a [6th Form science] teacher currently taking a career break to look after our five-month-old son and possibly retraining to become a Doula. We own a house each, a motorbike each, and a car with way too many baby accoutrements in.

Sounds like we have decent career prospects, right? That we're doing okay, that I found a quality person to have my kids with?

Well I have seven tattoos, including on my wrists at the pulse points, and my wife has the same. One of each of ours are visible, which is a rosebud tattooed on our left ring-finger, which we had done together to mark our handfasting (religious wedding) and is not covered completely by our wedding rings.

I had tattoos when I met her; she had tattoos when she met me. When I was 18 I was working as a chemical engineer; at that age she was a model. People change. People get tattoos. We all make choices we have to live with. No, the tattoo on her lower abdomen doesn't look great after pregnancy, but we can deal with that because we are mature people who made a choice and understood what that entailed.

To the thread-starter: I went with the foxhound; it's not my cup of tea, but then all of my tattoos are of obscure occult sigils and seals, so as long as it suits you then go for it. I would personally advise against getting it visibly on the neck, firstly because it will give you issues getting a white collar job, and also because you might wish to conceal it sometimes. Also, I would recommend getting it on your left tricep/bicep area, where Roman Legionaries would have S.P.Q.R. tattooed, and many armies have followed the tradition since. It's why I have a Star of Earendíl in that spot myself :)

When you are ready to settle down and have kids (if you ever do, your choice dude), then you will most likely find that you will settle down and have kids with a girl who shares your passions, activities, and will be cool with your tats. She may well want you to have a decent career before you breed, but that's just life XD

Take care, have fun, and make sure you research the tattooist first; this will be permanent, and hopefully awesome, but make sure you can see work they have done on people before you have yours done - tattooists who only show books of designs to copy/paste onto your skin are generally not much good, or they'd be showing off their work.

Here's a link to my personal tattooist: http://www.tattooed-lady.co.uk [NSFW!] - you can see our latest tattoos on the latest work section of the gallery, the red seven-pointed star and the round seal and hexagram just after it. :)

Good luck mate.

A lot of artists won't touch your neck or hands for your first one. And I'm tellin you now, do not consider getting your neck for your first one.

This ain't a matter of jobs or anythin, just you don't know the pain you're in for. All tats hurt, some more than others, and even if you can handle pain gettin your neck done for first one is just fuckin stupid.

Get your arms done first, best place to start with.

On another note, I like the 3rd one, but that's cause I'm a sucker for black and gray tats. Massively prefer it to colour.

Damn you!
I hate those shows. Tats don't need to mean shit. My sleeve was pretty much created by askin the guy to 'draw somethin' and I love it.
Im gettin the other half done soon. Again, I'll just ask him to draw somethin.

tattoos are what they are, they don't have to be anything. It just makes more sense to have a permanent change to your skin mean something than not.

Then perhaps you do not play the right games.

Some fiction can be much more inspiring than your every-day life. Good fiction can teach you something about yourself. Only the second symbol relates to gaming, anyway. Don't be such a prude. :p
It's not a matter of being a prude. Tattoos are for life (unless you get that expensive laser surgery), what you like now, you may not like in 20 or 30 years and you'll look back and wonder why the hell you did it.
And in 100 years all that skin will have rotted away anyway, so why does it matter? If I don't like the same shit in 30 years, then it's not a massive deal, I keep my designs relatively cryptic, and I would still consider them as painting a picture of my youth. Nobody should forget their younger years.

Sorry...I'm being all melodramatic now, you've got us in the mood! Damn you!

If you get a tattoo on your neck or anywhere visible all the time, you'll ruin your prospects for a decent job for the rest of your life, and I'd say that's a damn sight more important than getting something that looks cool. Plus, neck tattoos are for drug dealers and date rapists (no offense to those who do have a neck tattoo).

If you do get one, make it Foxhound, but keep it somewhere that can be concealed whilst wearing a t-shirt. Seriously, if you get it somewhere completely visible and uncoverable, the best job you'll be eligible for will be a barista at an independent coffee shop. Employers might not be able to legally discriminate, but they can sure as hell make judgement calls.

I wouldn't get one on your forearm/neck, personally.
And I have a tattoo of the Assassin's guild logo from Assassin's Creed, but the only way anyone can see it is if I deliberately show it off, which I never do.
