I'd love to see them redo the Syphon Filter series with next-gen graphics.

I'd love to see the pre-2000 Need for Speed games remade, but they couldn't just update the graphics and be done with it. So much of what we expect from a game has changed in ten years that it would be better to start from scratch and create a game in the same basic style.

It depends on the game.

If its something like Shadow of the Collosus, then no, the graphics are good as they are... I would REALLY like to see an HD remake of that though nonetheless...

Furthermore, some VERY old games might not work with new, 3D graphics, since they were designed around 2D gameplay... which, of course, is where 2.5D graphics come in. Yay!

Overall though, I'd say that early 3D games like Metal Gear Solid, etc, deserve remakes... old 2D games kinda have a timeless quality to them that can't really be made better with prettier graphics. Playstation and N64 games though... they just haven't stood the test of time graphic wise.

Recently I was talking to another Escapist user (lewism247) we were discussing the 'Metal Gear Solid' series of games. I said The first one on the PlayStation was the best and he said he would like to see it remade with better graphics.

Would you like to see old games brought back with up to date graphics? If so what game would you most like to see this done to?

I personally like playing MGS they way it its and wouldn't change the graphics even if I could.

another one i'd quite like to see done up is the suffering,of course add stuff to it but i think it'd be nice.

I'v seen people refuse to play games because of poor graffics

Super Metroid, with Crysis graphics?

I don't think it would be a bad thing, certainly...

A friend of mine said he'd never played MGS because of the graphics being bad by modern standards... needless to say I forced him to play it through and now he doesn't care so much about graphics. He learned that great games do not need high quality graphics.

The Twin Snakes is the first one re-made... Buy it and play it now. Its on gamecube.
I don't have a Gamecube. Anyway how did Nintendo gets rights to have it on one of there consoles?
There was a Nintendo development period. Besides the original Metal Gear games were on the NES!

I'd LOVE to see two truly ancient games remade with modernized graphics; The Legend of Dragoon, for the original Playstation, and Dungeon Keeper for the PC. The best games you've never heard of.

I don't know, But its bloody awesome a total revamp of the first game

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_gear_solid_twin_snakes

Sorry its wikipedia but it had alot of information on the game.
When it comes to games/movies/etc that I like I am a bit of a oureist and TwinSnakes sounds like it has to many changes.

"The Twin Snakes features graphical improvements over the original, new cut scenes written and directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, and gameplay functions originally introduced in the sequel Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The game also includes a revised translation with re-recorded voice acting using most of the original English voice cast"

That paragraph tells me that they have changed so much that it just won't be the same experience.

yes but when it went to PlayStation for MGS Sony bought all rights it it so I am wondering how Nintendo got to do a re-make for Gamecube.
I played the NES originals, and I didn't like them all that much.

Not current level graphics. Bring some old games to the level of graphics of HL2 (not the episodes) and that will be fine. After that there is waaaay too much focus on graphics over and above other, more important, features.

OT a specific game I would like to see with new graphics would be the Jedi Knight series.

This too, nothing has come close to NFS 2-3:HP in my opinion.
At the very least, EA could have kept Rom Di Prisco, Matt Ragan, and Saki Kaskas on music duty and saved themselves a lot in licensing fees.

Meh im normaly against touching a great game in anyway, like diablo 2 just wouldnt have the same feel in modern graphics, though i do think there would be a few you could do it to and get away with it.

No, no, no, no, a million times, no. What's the point of a simple graphical upgrade? It would be more beneficial to make a new game. At least TRY and be innovative and fresh with your ideas.

Ah, the difference of opinion. I found the Metal Gear solid games to improve with age, granted I haven't played MGS4 but I have been playing the portable editions and Naked snake's games are far superior to Solid Snake's although this is just my opinion.
I enjoyed 'MGS:portable Ops' and the expansion on PlayStationPortable. Other than that the newer games fail to live up to MGS in every way.
Like you said, however, that is my opinion and it wouldn't be the first time that I stuck to some purist belief when all those around me were saying I was wrong. I like what I like and that is not going to change.
