I cannot give a proper answer to this question without being given this hypothetical glass so that I may perform extensive testing upon it to microscopic detail.

I say that the glass has 50% more capacity than is actually required to contain the liquid. (The Engineer's response)

Its half empty, but im still trying to be an optimist, because i beleive in one of two following policies
1)I brought a water bottle, so im good regardless.
2) I dont care, just put it on my tab

I love messing with the minds of people who ask me this question, because my answer to it goes thus:

"It's both. That half's full and that half's empty."

So does that make me a pessimist or an optimist? I prefer to think of myself as a more realistic sort of person (a realist?), neutral I guess you could say.

What do you think, Escapists? Are you a half full, half empty or both sort of person? Do you think it's better to be biased one way or the other, or impartial to both?
The way to mess with people is to use my answer, "niether it's full up, one half is full of whatever it's filled with and the other half is air".

What does that make me? A smart arse, I assume.

For me it always depends on the state the glass was in last. If it was full and then emptied halfway before the question was asked then I'll call it half empty, but if it was in the process of being filled then it's half full.
At least, thats what I tell people when they ask. Either way i don't really care.

As a friend of mine once said, "The glass is neither half empty or half full, you just have more glass then what was needed."

Debatable. I may or may not have smashed the glass for fun with a blunt object.

If I am filling the glass, it's half full.

If I am emptying the glass, it's half empty.

Otherwise, it's just half a glass.

I'd certainly say that the glass is full. Not half full, not half empty, but full. I mean, even though a few weeks ago, I had a car crash that wasn't my fault and still looked on the bright side, despite being messed around by the various authorities and the woman that hit me. I get a really nice car for a few weeks and okay, while I'm paying slightly more for fuel, it does look really flash.

Work has become bad and as a result, I've been cut down to three days a week, starting tomorrow. Is this such a bad thing? Not really - I've now got 5 years of experience with admin and I can go out there and find more work in the office industry. I've got experience and skills to match and I should be able to get a wage more befitting of my skill level, so that would be nice.

On top of that, I'll have a few hours more to spend with my creative writing over Mondays and Tuesdays, so that will help me reach my goals for 2011.

It depends on whether it's been filled or emptied to half way. If it's been filled to half way, it's half full. If it's been emptied to half way, it's half empty.

So has the glass in question been filled or emptied last?
This. Everyone who has asked me that question, i've answered that to.
