As with most movements like that, they're typically a bunch of emotionally charged people led by someone who has some sort of charismatic hold over them that insights ust enough outrage to get them to do something stupid.

People, laws and whatnot can change. It's there for a reason. Use the system to fight the things you don't like, at least then you can somewhat legitimize your stance against it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Greenpeace starts blowing up power stations soon enough.

Anything Greenpeace does is wrong. They're just terrorists. The only reason they don't have a few M1A2's sitting in their living room is because they're doing it in the name of the earth instead of their deity.
That raises a question, why are we not hunting them? Clearly they are nothing more then a terrorist group.

They are in the wrong not only for breaking the law but they are stopping SCIENCE!!! Sorry, but why would they want to prevent a study? I think it is because they don't want the government finding the secret code in the DNA of wheat the starts up the machine which grants unlimited power. This post is not making much sense now so I'm just going drop the terrible attempts at satire and state my opinion.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with GM food as long as it is suitably tested. But my one condition with it is that it MUST be sterile. That's pretty much it.

Greenpeace, claiming they're saving the world by destroying tests that could save millions from starvation.

If you're trying to prove GM crops are bad (some evidence suggests certain strains may damage the environment, but nothing watertight), then destroying the crop just discredits your side of the argument.
This is like those idiots in Sea Shepard; yeah, let's protect the whales by getting ourselves arrested whilst committing blatantly criminal acts and then claim they did it!

While we agree on greenpeace you are a hell of a broken record. For the record the only reason they don't have any M1A2's sitting in their living room is because they're cowards who want to hide behind the banner of non-violence even as they smash labs and hurl shit at people. And might I add, thank goodness for that cowardice.

People get freaked out by GM foods not realising that we;ve been doing it for generations...

Next time someone gets up in your face about GM food ask them if they eat carrots, then ask if they're purple. If they eat orange carrots they're GM foods.

GM foods doesn't mean pumped full of chemicals and terrible doom and gloom, it just means that they are grown in a controlled way.

Source [http://www.nextnature.net/2009/08/why-are-carrots-orange-it-is-political/]
There is a difference between selective breeding and genetic modification. A pig and an earthworm could never be bred together. (You are welcome to try.) With genetic modification though there currently exists a hybridized animal that produces bacon chalk full of omega 3 fatty acids (that fat in fish that's good for your heart. These sorts of mixtures, which have never nor ever could have, occurred in nature are often fraught with ethical concerns as well as with all manner of unexpected, real-world problems. There was a scare in india for example where GM terminator crops had spread their sterility to neighboring rice fields. Another incident revolved around a genetically modified corn that killed off it's own pests without the use of chemicals, but also scores of endangered monarch butterflies. Genetic engineering has many very real dangers that it would be foolish to ignore as "doom and gloom".

The orange carrot defense for current practices of genetic modification is misleading at best and an outright lie at worst. Dutch growers chose only from among genes that already existed within carrots. They didn't pull genes from an orange and put them into a carrot to acheive their desired effect.

I have nothing against genetically modified crops, but they need to be observed and carefully controlled to make sure there are no adverse side effects to the natural gene pool or to their environments before being deployed. The purpose of this lab was just that.

Genetic Modifation has been happening for ages. It's the next step up from Selective Breeding and Cross Breeding. Now instead of having to selective breed they can select the traits they want and don't want.

Wheat that can grow in harsher environments, heck yes!

And testing it first... thats a good idea. stupid greenpeace

GM foods require less resources to cultivate and yields greater harvests.
Cheaper, grows faster, it can even be more nutritious.
It is literally the solution to world hunger.
Yet people do this shit.
It's fucking stupid.

No it's not. It's something different altogether. They may both attain the goal of change in a plant or animal but the process makes all the difference. Think of it this way: A nail and a screw are both fasteners. Yes? A screw is more advanced than a nail. Yes? Do you dive a nail with a screwdriver or a screw with a hammer? No. A nail is not a screw. A screw is not a nail. Anyone who tells you so is woefully misinformed.

Slightly off-topic, but unless 7PM Project has changed its format lately, it's about as close to "news" as the Daily Telegraph.

I'd vote "Not in the right"; breaking and entering isn't exactly a good thing to do. Plus, GM food may yet prove not to be the herald of the Apocalypse. Maybe their time would have been better spent doing some rigorous tests of their own to support their claims?

because this argument has enough retards on all sides without me throwing my hat in the ring i would just like to say one thing: GM food is not the same as selective breeding which farmers have done for thousands of years, doesn't mean it's bad but i still would prefer if not everyone buys monsanto seeds that are only good for one season.

Greenpeace are against GM crops because they MAY cause harm to the environment. However, we don't have any conclusive proof of what harm they may or may not cause. So really, what Greenpeace are doing here is invalidating their own argument.

However, to come at it from a completely different angle, if you were born and raised in a country in Africa where there's terrible droughts and famines, would you honestly give two shits if the food you're able to grow in your impoverished land was GM or not? The fact that your children no longer have to go to bed hungry every single night would most likely swing your opinion to the Pro GM stand point I feel.

This sort of left wing idiocy really winds me up. It's like those morons who break into aquariums and release captive born dolphins into the wild "because that's where they belong" despite the fact the animals have no idea how to survive in the wild and end up dead of starvation because they don't know how to catch their own food.

Lol, your thread reminded me of when I was having a discussion with a friend about GM foods and he said 'Don't you die instantly if you eat GM foods' (I am seriously not making this up) and I just looked at him and facepalmed.

OT: *sigh* Why do people do this sort of thing? How can you expect to get people on your side if you break the law and destroy the equivalent of people's time and money simply because you disagree with it. Everyone has an opinion on everything and they are entitled to it - that doesn't mean they should 'voice' it by breaking the law and making other people's lives difficult.
