Black clothes =/= goth like the base stereotype potrays. Neither does wearing spiky jewlery (thats more 70's/80's punk/retro or metal depending on the style).
No, true goth shits bats, drinks bloodwine and writes bad poetry. And thats just the clothes. The makeup and hairstyles make bad techno with whiny lyrics.

Gothic clothing and accessories are pretentious and showy. It is nothing but an attention grabbing deviation from the norm, designed purely to turn heads, and if you as a designer disagree then are simply full of yourself.

It looks pretty cool, its just that goths themselves in my experience can be the same sort of "celebrating individualism by being completely identical crowd that I see more and more of these days.

depends on what you mean. i, myself, wear black clothing. i dont go to the mall and get tripp pants. no, i spend as little as i can on my clothes. all very plain and non trendy. not this fucking mall bullshit you people think is goth today. why put a label on who i am by pointing out what i like to wear?
I'm quite fond of goth clothing from an observers perspective at least, though more in the steam-punk range of the spectrum than the horribly over the top, chunky spikes and chains everywhere cliché that seems to dominate any gothic clothes store I see.
Steam punk and victorian is allright. But I think goths are just way too rare nowadays. Sure you have your wannabe goths that think avenged sevenfold and cradle of filth are goth, but where are the cure style goths? To be honest nowadays goth clothing is just chains, baggy trousers and some sort of band tshirt. It never really suits anyone to be honest, allthough the steam punk and victorian can suit the right person, but not many people wear it properly.
i don't have a problem with the clothing style, it's fine but not for me, there are however, a group of people i know who like to wear goth clothes and they are awful..they are the most awful goth hipsters i have ever seen, i avoid them like the plague if at all necessary.
