I don't mind goth clothing. I actually find all cultures and subcultures to have both beautiful looking and ugly looking people, and the alternative clothing and makeup seem to make the beautiful more beautiful and unique, and the ugly more ugly. I find this to be true about scene, metal, etc. as well...

It only works on girls. I think corsets, fish nets, and the like are incredibly hot.

I think the reason it appeals is that people new to bothering with fashion generally prefer black as its an easy colour to use but otherwise I generally don't like the 'emo' side of Gothic and more the serious black attitude of the clothing.. which is why I went through a phase of military Gothic.. that didn't end well..

Captcha - substance arouse.. I think this Captcha thing is trying to get me high.. how dare it..

I'm quite fond of lolita ...
Me too. I wish there was a male equivalent.
Defeat the purpose wouldn't it? ^_^

Well there are male pseudo equivalents for that scene, but come on. As if you'd pass up the chance to wear a cutsew edged in lace, a pinafore and overknee socks with a delightful pair of platform mary janes and a bow in your hair and the thickest, fullest petticoat there has ever been?

It's like faux modesty. You stand out yet you don't show anything ....

Sure you annoy people when you walk in doorways and take up three times the amount of space you should normally take up in civil society, but that's half the fun. Besides, everybody else can go and get fucked ... I want to look pretty and they just have to put up with it <.<

I just want a decent starting point. Like classy Victorian goth for beginners.

Depends.
I like the style of clothing and would wear more of it if I could afford it.

I just don't like the Hot Topic billboards on two legs.

It's not really the clothes I mind so much as the attitude that goes with it. Most goths I run into are teenaged know-nothings who just want to upset adults and parrot whatever negative catchphrase they've heard a million times about how life sucks. And usually their lives are pretty damn good because they have parents who can not only afford the prices at Hot Topic, but are also weak-kneed OR free-spirited enough to allow them to leave their houses dressed like carnie folk from the County Fair of the Damned.

It's the ones who dress freakish but still have a good attitude about life that I enjoy being around. I think some Goth outfits can be very sexy and fashionable, but a pretentious and negative attitude can be the worst fashion accessory.

I hate goth clothing, not because of the clothes but because of the people wearing them.
Goths act like they have problems when their life is fine, and then it's people with real problems that have to put up with the fuckers.
That's just the immature kiddies who think that's what Goth is. Most Goths who know their shit (as far as I know) aren't like that and are mostly in it because they like the clothes/music/whatever and are otherwise pretty normal.

That sums it up quite nicely, actually.

In a sentence, hell yeah..

Though I don't get why everyone goes for the fucking Victoriana thing, it just feels lazy and played out to me.

PVC, Corsertry, Bondage Clothing and Dramatic Makeup though, all seriously good things. Not too fond of trad myself, or cyber on girls as it's become a bit homogenous.

Like anything that's been around long enough, "gothic" has a few different definitions or at least a few different varieties. Brahm Stoker's Dracula and The Matrix have nothing in common with, say, My Chemical Romance. It's the lattermost that I can't stand. The guyliner, the skinny jeans, the slumped, sullen, sunken-in vampiric faces of melodramatic bloggers and tweetin' teens. Ech. But a girl in a corsetlike number with black makeup and a cross necklace and purple-black hair? Yummy. Matrix trenchcoats? Yes, sir.

Cloths are cloths to me. They can just be another form of expressing oneself and the stereotypical goth is just that, a stereotype with no real application to society. Hell I didn't even notice it until recently but most of my cloths are black except for my jeans and I don't think that makes me goth. As for goth being bad or good I say good if nothing else because I like the color black.
