i'm really tired of grammar nazis.
capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and fragmentization are all second hand to content.
judge a man for the quality of his thoughts and opinions not for how well he obeys a few highly artificial rules and regulations.

if you know what i'm saying than does it matter how i punctuated or spelled it?

Edit: Because I see how the opinions are trending i'll make a deal. If I can get thirty posts; then I will make a concious effort to capitalize, punctuate, and use complete sentences. I will also try to work on my spelling, but I can make no guarantees that I will manage to improve.

Second edit: The thirty post goal has been reached. From this moment on I will attempt to improve my Grammar. My apologies for the rant; clearly grammar is more important than I had previously thought.

Like the rules say: we're not evaluating your knowledge of the proper use of the semicolon, only your ability to write a coherent sentence. "U" instead of "you" falls outside of that, for instance.

What if Machiavelli, instead of writing: "If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared."
Had written "if u hit sby u shood hit em so hard they cant hit u back lol"

It's just being considerate. If you want people to actually read what you write, make it sensible and at least try and put some effort into it.

You just come off as lazy and uneducated.

You complain too much.
If you lax up on the grammer, then eventually it be about as legibal (I know I misspelled that, can someone please correct me) as texting, only twice as lazy, so it will actually be less understandable.

Well it helps people understand what you want to talk (or not) about. I mean this
Today i went to town and brought a cd the cd was by taylor swift and i paid 10 pounds for it then i went to mcd to get a burger and fries i then saw my mate and went to say hello

is hardly easy to read and it looks horrible.

PS: You have no idea how hard it was for me to write like that. Even if it was about 15-20 seconds work.

Yes, it is important, to an extent. It may kinda suck, but good grammar denotes intelligence, and therefore many people are going to pay more attention to a point made in a grammatically correct post than one that isn't, even if they have the same point.

I'm not saying go out and get a thesaurus or double check the spelling of each word, or to reread every post you make and make sure it's all nice and shiny, but is it really that hard to capitalize and punctuate?

EDIT:

I'm sorry but the complete lack of punctuation and spelling for me, make posts unreadable. I mean hell, we have a spell checker built into the "reply to thread" box.

Thing is you need correct punctuation and spelling for people to understand you. If you don't use that, it will just leads to miscommunication then to flame wars and etc. Plus people will look at a post and be acceptive of what you're trying to convey, if it didn't look a third grader did it.

*edit*

See thats what I mean, when I meant miscommunication.

On another note, why won't that image go away!

There were two spelling errors in your post, somewhat ironically.

(And there is no spellchecker, it's probably Firefox, it does that everywhere.)

Sorry, fixed, couldn't help myself. :p

And sorry again, but I can hardly respect anyone on a forum who insists on spelling so horribly, when they're smarter than that. It frustrates me. Maybe just because I love English so much, and aspire to be a writer...

Mistakes are fine (I know we've got plenty of non-native English speakers here), but if you deliberately ignore grammar and just hope that people get what you're saying, are you really worth listening to?

As a side note, my answer isn't in that poll. It'd be somewhere between the first and second options.

Bahaha, internet high five.

Anyway, it's all just a matter of respect for other forum members.

As long as I can read it and understand it, there can be a few grammar and spelling mistakes. Hell, I know I make them, but I try to make it at least understandable for other people to read what I'm trying to get across.

Must be opera, or windows7. Either way there is no spelling error, it's probably me using the wrong word. Which is not, misspelling. Please maybe in a pm tell me my errors, cause I don't see any.
