Ok look I'm sorry. But I'm going to just go on a rant here. So I'm playing Alan Wake. Not having a particularly good time but that's a topic for another day. Getting some ammo stockpiled. Feeling pretty good about myself when BAM!!! I get my weapons taken away.Ok ok fine. Whatever. Fast forward. By, my count not even halfway through this game I'm trying my best not to call ABCs Lost...but in the woods, has taken my complete inventory like 3....FUCKING....TIMES now!!!! Fuck man. I mean really? Why must games do this ALL THE EFFING TIME? I've been a gamer since the 5600. And I swear developers can't seem to find another way to shake things up a bit. Does this not just flippin bunch the panties of others like it does mine? Its like the first couple of times I may have though it was cool but holy shit, It's become a game breaker for me! Tell me what you think people.

Edit: Yes I understand and agree that the game is pretty damn easy. BUT none the less I feel game developers need to find another way to mix it up. Period.

Done right (Half Life 2) it can be interesting/entertaining.

Done to death (Metroid) gets really damn old.

I'm playing Crysis right now and I've been saving incendiary ammo and shotgun ammo, and then out of no where I get captured and that huge gun that I went out of my way to get is now gone and all the ammo I had been saving disappeared. That didn't make me too happy...

Prototype had a section where you couldn't use your powers at all and then expected you to take out an entire base. That section made me rage pretty hard.

I Lol'd.

I honestly like sections where you don't use guns. It takes the "you're going to be shot at" pressure off for a bit. Obviously there has to be gunfights though, otherwise it's not a very fun game.

EDIT: If there's TOO MANY sections it can get annoying, though.

the game drops so much ammo that if they didn't keep taking your weapons away it would destroy the the horror action of the game

Happened to me when bandits took my fully upgraded AK in Stalker clear sky.
You can kill them and get it back if you want, but the gun was so good, the bandit had actually picked it up from the box, and used it himself. Unscripted AI FTL there..
And the thing would kill me in 1-3 hits, plus he had a scope.
All while I am left with no money, and a pistol.

Its okay if its at the very end or you can get it back soon, but any other time is bullshit.

I spent all of half life 2 with my beautiful guns and they became like children to me. Then you get frozen in place and the are vaporized right in front of you I almost cried when they fried my crowbar.

Silent Hill 2 worked fine for me:
in the last 'part' of the game, you need to take an elevator to progress. However, it is very weight limited, so you have to leave everything in a locker by the save point. Also, you get everything back 10-15 minutes later :p

That's another thing. Some games take them and then when you get them back all your ammo is gone or whatever. ugh makes me wanna go to stabbin

I hate it for the most part, it's not a deal breaker, but it does irk me a bit... like in bioshock, by the point they take your guns away, I already had near max ammo and a ton of special ammo for my guns, and then they go and strip my guns, and when they give them back, I only have mabye 1/4 of my ammo stockpile... it's BS

If it's in a game where you work hard for your weapons, finding them and leveling them up or whatever, then i can understand it being annoying.
In most games though they practically hand out your weapons as part of the story so it's not too bad.

I can imagine it being annoying if it happens a lot throughout a game too, twice should be the max.

That was seriously annoying in Alan Wake. Just when you get the super duper flashlight, they take it away from you.

What the hell is that super duper flashlight even in the game for if you only let me have it for the last %5 of each level? Arg!

It pisses the hell out of me, but only if repeated ad nauseam.
I mean, it can be a good tension tool, sure... but your inventory is, really, the only dependable thing in the entire game. You have played through, with a mind ready to assume all manner of betrayals, from all corners of the game.
Cue that one rocket launcher, that you were given in the first level. Is it too useful? Well, no, not yet- but I KNOW it will be. And I KNOW it will be here next level...
And then it is taken away, further illustrating that the PC has no friends in this world.
Oh well, at least you usually get the stuff back eventually. Worst is when your shit is gone AND they force escort/defence missions (Prototype comes to mind)
