It depends, sometimes I'll accept it as a way to rebuild ones arsenal and that it does add something to gameplay but on the other hand it feels like a pointless addition to lengthen game time by making you have to go and reclaim all the stuff you already got last time.
So yeah, for the most part it annoys me and this was especially the case in open world games because it meant I couldn't do all the mayhem that I still wanted to do and had no problem doing before.

I hate it if there is no reason for it and when I don't get my gear back.

Metal Gear does it right. Take it away for a short time so you can't go gung-ho and then give it back after less than an hour normally.

Remember Symphony of the Night? You know, you're Alucard, running around and one-hit KOing everyone in the beginning of the game, then Death decides to rain on your party and steals your powers.

So very annoying.

I hate games that act like Democrats.
I whole-heatedly agree, there is far too much subliminal communist propaganda in these new video games.

The only times it works when they take your shit away is if A) Its a prison sequence and you're going to get it back quite soon (Dragon Age), or B) You've become a fucking god and no longer need such mortal weapons (HL2)

Done right (Half Life 2) it can be interesting/entertaining.

Done to death (Metroid) gets really damn old.
I spent all of half life 2 with my beautiful guns and they became like children to me. Then you get frozen in place and the are vaporized right in front of you I almost cried when they fried my crowbar.
Yeah it was sad, but thankfully you get that upgraded beast of a gravity gun in its place. At least that was somewhat unique and interesting, unlike the "oh noes you crashed and now none of your gunz werk! Better go find them all again..."

I like it. Adds some variety, which there's rarely enough of.
Though I also like vehicle sections so I guess I'm just odd.

KoTOR did it well.

Prototype had a section where you couldn't use your powers at all and then expected you to take out an entire base. That section made me rage pretty hard.
The guns in that game just wiped everything out. They were actually stronger then the powers at taking on the grunts.
I thought that was a nice change from the usual RAWR I AM A GOD gameplay.

I wouldn't mind if as soon as the guns are taken away, you can beat the shit out of the responsible parties and take them back
Splinter Cell Conviction also does it quite well, where at the begining of most stages you can just pick up any two weapons of your choice

I liked the way it was done in Uncharted 2 because it wouldn't make sense having guns since your enemies just took them away from you. Also in the first and third God of War games because they happened at the end.

It does seem like a slightly uncreative way to mess with the player's sense of safety, but there are times and ways that it can be done where it fits the story particularly well or opens up possibilities to the player.

Examples being the fight against Peachy in Bioshock, where you were stripped of your weapons and had to fight with only plasmids. (If you didn't know what worked where and how, you did after that fight) Or in GoW when you fought your first Berserker. You didn't actually lose your weapons but they were completely useless. But in Bioshock you got your weapons back after the fight and in GoW you just Hammer'd the thing into the ground.

But generally speaking, yeah, it makes me rage a bit.

Games that take your weapons away? Only one of those I've played is Okami, when you get to the final boss it takes all your brushstrokes. The point of the first part of that fight is earning them back one by one, so it was kind of annoying, but it made me realize how much I depended on them, which made the rest of the battle so much more satisfying. So in Okami it was a good thing.

The only time its happened to me was in Fable but I got all of it back relatively quickly so it didn't upset me all that much.

I can handle it if they actually give you a good reason for the weapon heist. Some games just don't manage to pull this off thus making it pretty annoying.

during Half Life 2,they take away your weapons, but leave you with the ubered gravity gun,so it's a tradeoff.
