Gotta say Saints Row 2. Niko Bellic is just such an unappealing character, and the story from Saints Row 2 is already established.

STORY:
Saints Row 2: You were on Alderman Hughes' boat when Julius, the former leader of the Third Street Saints, blew it up, you survived and were in a coma for two years, you wake up in jail, go bust out and cause mayhem on the streets of Stillwater...again, by blowing up hotels owned by the yakuza and blowing up drug labs owned by jamacians."
Grand Theft Auto 4: "Come to America and do crap for your utterly unlikeable cousin."

COPS:
The cops are generally just mean-spirited traffic barriers, in both games, but...
SR2: ...they're headed up by a former Third Street Saints lieutenant who was really an undercover cop named Troy Bradshaw who immediately catches heat from your gang's actions like stealing money from casinoes, but really he's just trying to do his job.
GTA4: ...that's it. They're really just mean-spirited traffic barriers who keep you from ascending the clock tower with a sniper rifle.

ENEMIES:
The guys you tend to put a lot of holes in are...
SR2: Gang bangers from three distinct gangs: The Ronin, The Sons of Samedi and the Brotherhood, the cops and the security team of the Ultor megacorporation.
GTA4: Random guys who you kill as a means to an end.

LOCATION:
The games take place in...
SR2: Stillwater, a frankly ironic name, but the city is something citizens of Los Angeles would find strikingly familiar.
GTA4: Liberty City, an uninspired second coming into New York City.

I won't bother with weapons, since they all do the same thing (make people dead) so yeah.

Wheres the option for "Neither"? I played GTA 4, But ONLY to get the achievements because they are relatively easy to get. My friend let me borrow SR 2 and i couldnt stand playing it for more than an hour before i started to get physically ill.

I started with saints row, went to gta, went back after finishing, and found myself missing GTA more. Sure you can do more silly and fun things sandboxy in SR2, but fighting off hordes of cops is so much better in GTA (not to mention the 16 player multiplayer). Also, the incredible graphics, radio, and internet comedy will make you feel like you're more in Liberty City than Stillwater.

A highly BIASED comparison or a mere troll attempt? You tell me.

For GTA, can I just pretend that the lost and damned is the main storyline, and that the only multiplayer was free-roam.
Because If I can, then I can pretend that GTA IV was actually a GTA game, rather then some semi-serious knockoff.

I kid, GTA IV was a fine game, but it tried to implement to much reality into the universe, which made the game less fun and...more like real old boring life. I cant say I liked SR2 much better because frankly it went to the other extreme and made me feel like I was playing in an alternate reality were nothing made sense, It made the bland storyline a lot less intriguing, but the free-roaming and minigames were still fun.

So Im kinda tied up here....can I just say Stalker that was free roaming right?

Watch the Zero Punctuation review and that will help. GTA is ultra realistic, has a great story, good character development and great graphic. Saints Row on the other hand, has things like Jetpacks, and crazy fun things and is less realistic but in a way, more fun so... I would still say GTA because I haven't tried Saints Row.

I depends what you want. GTA is very realistic and has some satisfying gunplay, pop n drop with a single headshot is always fun. The script is far better, an the cars handle more realistically (which may be bad to some people).

Saints Row 2 is more Cartoony, your first mission involves you busting into a courthouse with guns blazing, watching a humorous cutscene where your freind tells a judge to fuck off, and then escaping. Saints Row 2 also lets you completly customize your character down to their animations and voices.

Effectivly, Saints Row 2 is what GTA USED to be, GTA4 is a true crime drama.

From what I've played (not much) I'd say the new Red Faction. I just don't like GTA's and I haven't played Saints Row.

I've not played GTA4, but I'll tell you that Saints Row 2 is the most fun I've had with a game in a long time.

Also, character customisation.

San Andreas

Speeding through the countryside to Tom Petty's 'Running Down a Dream' just does not ever get old

Rockstar's storytelling ability plus all the wackiness you could ever need.

Plus the radio stations were infinitely better than GTA4.

Personal opinion. So if you're looking for an answer from the options you gave, it'd probably be biased.
