So we hear all the time about GTA4. In this weeks latest Extra Consideration, Yahtzee said "GTA4 was the biggest release of any form of media ever". Pretty big words for a game I've never played! Now, I did play GTA I, II, and III, and thats where my GTA experiences stop. Why? Just not my type of game I suppose. 3 was decent and all but I didn't think it was that special (tho I'll admit at the time it was pretty crazy).

Anyway there's still a ton of media about GTA4. It pops up in seemingly every "gaming culture" article/story.

So what I want to know is, who here has actually sat down on this game for more than 6 hours? And do/did you like it?

I borrowed it off my friend a while back and got to the last island. Didnt finish it.

But I've borrowed it off him again and Im determined to finish it this time. (started new game)

Its ok, I prefere Saints Row 2. But I liked it enough to at least try to see it all the way through a second time(currently on the second island).

I loved the hell out of GTA4, so many hours wasted just blowing up gas stations and doing wheelies and 100 miles per hour :D

Plus its such a purdy game.

Borrowed it from a friend. I pretty much only enjoyed it when I wasn't playing the stories or mission. I did not finish it. My buddy told me I was only like half way thru the game when I lost interest.

Saints Row 2 however...

Mainly for all those reasons stated and for the fact it's also kinda fun to mess around with the rag-dolls... *Ahem*

But one gripe I have with it that every car seems to under-steer, regardless of speed. XD

Yes I played it but it was "to realistic" for me.
Taking Damage inside a vehicle and flying trough a windscreen didn't made it better.
sorry for the stupid double post, i hitted quote instead of edit....

I played it for about 5 or 6 hours and got the same out of it as I did the rest of the series.

It's fun to dick around in but, honestly, nothing else.

It takes a while to get used to the steering for me but I got real good and driving and flying helicopters XD

In multiplayer I was always the chopper guy.

Yes, but it was incredibly bland and finishing the story was a chore.

Agreed. It really ran out of steam halfway through.

It was indeed a chore to play; somehow the great setting and music could'nt hide the fact that you're driving your cousin to a f*cking bowling alley half the time; I just could not be bothered to play further. Somehow they took all the fun out of the gameplay.

I played it twice and kept it for possible future playthroughs. I don't do that with many games. Of course, I just opted to not do the things that people complain about (bowling, darts, etc). Though I did go out drinking with Dwayne.

The Lost and the Damned had better gameplay. I did lost interest in Gay Tony, mostly because of the uninterested character you play as.

I borrowed it from a friend of mine, but I never got really into it. I probably played for about 20 hours total because I kept thinking that it would get to the "good part" but it never did and I quit.

I mean it was alright, and I understand why someone would like it, but it just wasn't something that I enjoyed that much. I just didn't feel like the gameplay was satisfying.

I did however love Red Dead Redemption, and still play it all the time.

I've played it through a couple times. It's my favorite GTA, and I've played every one there is on PC. I've probably never been as excited for a game than I was for GTA II.

The physics are awesome. Especially the driving. It also looks very good. I didn't like the cell phone and everything that came with it, that much though. And I've never been a fan of cover-shooting in games.

I bought the complete edition of the game a few months back.
I played through the main game itself and I rather enjoyed it.
Currently playing through The Ballad of Gay Tony. It's possibly the best DLC ever released for anything... EVER.
