I've actually tried many times to play a real instrument. xD But I'm just too unco-ordinated to hold down the strings (yeah I know lame excuse)
Anywho, at least on Rockband/Guitar Hero I can play on expert :D
But I might keep trying, maybe I just need a good teacher? :/
Same. That, and music classes in my early schools were a joke. They didn't teach me diddly.
Hehe, those were fun though, I learnt how much time you can waste when you're partnered up with your friend on a keyboard that makes helicopter sounds :D
soi soi soi soi~
Actually I wasn't so bad at keyboard, but I doubt they will make a keyboard hero anytime soon D:

I can't actually play guitar but I'm just going to assume it's better. but you need a lot more practice.

I have to say this but I'm not so sure about the "why not just play real guitar?" argument. If you take it to its logical conclusion you could easily say "Why don't you go to war for real rather than play COD. Real killing is a far better experience than simulated combat".

I'm happy playing real guitar, it satisfies me, whereas I find those silly music games boring.

I prefer playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band... Mostly because I have little musical talent. Despite my pianist's fingers, I can't play instruments.

I play bass and guitar to quite a high standard. My singing has been described as being very good, as in I was better than some signed bands. But enough of blowing my own trumpet. I quite enjoy playing GH because it is fun and exhilarating to pull off some of the solos etc as I don't play solos on real guitar. I just can't, I don't know why.

I can only play GH on expert tho and I've only liked it since GH:WT because of the vast improvements to the gameplay. I actually thought GH3 over-complicated some otherwise simple to play songs.

Especially 'welcome to the jungle', you simply can't play lead and rhythm at the same time and that game makes you switch schizophrenically between them.

But I played an hour and a half gig last night and that was 100 times more fun than playing GH.

I have GH2 and GH3, plus a real guitar and 5 string bass... yet I suck at all of them, but I do enjoy playing real instruments more...

While I respect the fact that playing real guitar (well!) is unbelievably awesome compared to, lets say, GuitarHero; I just have more fun with the game. Music isn't my gig, I'm a different kind of artist. And f(l)ailing madly at a guitarshaped piece of plastic is really fun :)

Real instruments. I play guitar and guitar hero is really giving guitarists a hard time atm, its very hard to be a teenager who has played guitar for a long time to be taken seriously, when everyone else your age has been playing for like 6 months since they learnt to play Through The Fire... on hard difficulty and think that its just as easy to transcribe straight to guitar.

Playing real guitar. I'm not that good at it, but it just feels much better. Its hard to describe really. I do like playing rock band guitar too, it just feels a little empty. Not great use of language but it is kind of difficult to describe.

The best thing about music class for me was learning the drunken sailor song for recorder.

i love them both

guitar hero and them kinda games at a party are unbeatable everyone can join in without feeling left out as people can play it on easy and still feel immense

although playing the same song but on real guitar you feel like a god haha ( harder to learn but the pay off is miles better )

I don't know..I play bass guitar currently and I really like Guitar Hero/Rock Band. I'm better at Guitar Hero than I am at playing bass but playing a real guitar is just so much more difficult, so you get a much greater sense of accomplishment when you finally nail a song playing in real life as opposed to hitting all 3000 colorful buttons. Playing the trooper on GH2 and learning the trooper's bass-line on actual guitar were 2 veerry different feelings. Plus, once you get to the point in guitar hero where I am..there's nothing left to do but scrape up those few extra 5 stars and pack it in. Playing bass, there's always something to improve on, something new to play, new genres of music to explore. So I'd have to go with playing real guitar over guitar hero, but I still think it's fun.

Wait for it...

I like both! Woooahh!!

They are two completely different things, sure one is modelled off the other, but one is a game and the other is real life activity. I'm really to sure why people get so angry about it.

I was planning on writing a massive thing about how different they are, but there isn't much point. They are different and it is well possible to like both things. I know I do.

I would also like to add I find GH way harder (on the harder settings at least) than bass. On a bass I should never have to stretch my hand as far as I do from the 1st button to the 5th button, I can find the same note somewhere else. As well as that, I actually learn songs ahead of time, bass would be a lot harder if someone was yelling the notes at me as I played.

In conclusion, stop comparing the two. GH and RB are hilarious, mindless, awesome fun. Real music is a bit more than that.

Well, Guitar Hero got me into playing guitar, but I much prefer the hard work from learning songs. It's so much better when you learn that hard chord, and when you play your favorite song for real.

Pretty big difference. One is a nice way to look like a jackass at a party in front of girls, the other is a game. :p

This applies to Drums and Bass, not guitar, but I'd say go with the real instrument by far. Don't get me wrong, I love RB and GH, but when I got a real drum set, and a real bass guitar, boy did I have fun. Much more than I ever had or could have had on RB or GH.

So, my 2 cents is, go with real guitar. Sure it's harder and more challenging, but also more rewarding and fun. Plus, if you're lucky and good enough, you can do something succesfull with your life as a guitar player. You can't do that with RB or GH.
