i like knives the most out of any weapon i suppose. i collect knives, i make knives but i don't know how to fight with them, for that I use chain weapons, i find them fun to use and practice with them regularly. although i do realize that war isn't fought with swords and shields (or chain weapons) anymore so as far as firearms go I prefer small machine guns, like the uzi, mp5, and current favorite FN-P90. light weight, lots of rounds, easy to reload, and if I'm so far from my target that i would need a rifle then I'm far enough away to escape from the fight.

A rifle is a sport weapon and a knife is a tool. So, in order to subvert the thread so I don't endorse violence, I'll say it's a toss-up between those two.

Ah yes I love the old style of Navel warfare myself. I spend hours on Empire and Napoleon: Total war in ship battles, throwing the biggest, and most heavily armed gunships(Im talking 100 gun monsters) at each other.
Heh heh, so do I. I often just arrange custom battles between heavy first raters, purely for the spectacle of a series of simultaneous dual 50-55 gun broadsides. Epic! Gotta love line of battle in this context.

As for blunderbusses... nasty pieces of work, as likely to blow up in your face as it is blow up your enemy's face! Eeesh...

My favorite has gotta be proper swords. Not those goofy 3am QVC swords with the picks and stuff on it. One of my goals is to find a suitably large metallic meteorite, and another carbonaceous meteorite, and then have them forged into a sword by a master japanese swordsmith.

Glock 18 and an L85A2 for me. Versatility is important.
Glock's are good, reliable weapons, used alot by law inforcement. Personally perfer a Jericho 941, or a Colt .45 1911. IMHO though it doesnt get any better than the Wildey .457 mag, it can be costumized in different barrel lengths and sights or laser optics can easily be attached. The only problem is the ammo also has to be custom made.

Schofield's are great revolvers, very well made, and can use many different ammo types. They also can be reloaded super quick thanks to a thumb latch that drops the barrel down and ejects the cartridges.

Looked up that L85A2, its an...interesting gun. Reminds me of another British gun but cant think of the name. From what I can see a fully modified M4(like what U.S troops carry) or M16 will give you the same results.(especially if you want versatility) As far as assault rifles go I'll take a P-90 over any other any day of the week.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the P90 fire pistol cartridges and is, by extension, an SMG?

Personally I'm a huge fan of pistols, particularly the Beretta 90 Two or PX4, the Heckler and Koch USP and a whole crapload of 1911s. Rifles come in a close second, I love bolt actions, and in terms of assault rifles I'm obsessed with the Magpul Masada/Bushmaster ACR.

EDIT: Typos...

I don't own a gun, but my friends all say I'm the sort of person that should own a revolver. I think it's a compliment...
It really depends on your friends whether that's a compliment or not. On one hand revolvers have a long history in law enforcement and are generally considered worthy of those in a position of power (generals loved them for a long time).

On the other hand they are the simplest gun for beginners because their ease of use, are generally safer and obviously incredibly easy to unjam.

I'd still take it as a compliment. Revolvers are badass!

A kindred spirit! :D Man if I'd so love to Captain a 122 gun ship of the line, that would be epic.

You are wrong, a P-90 is classified as an assualt rifle.

Actually, Wikipedia says it can be called either, and I'm going with them on this one.

My personal favorite is my 1932 German Manufactured K98-K Mauser. 8mm feels like a nice heavy cartridge which gives an appropriate 'feedback'. The rifle itself is very self-explanatory and forgiving of the unexperienced (what you aim at, you will destroy). Most importantly of all, it is drop dead gorgeous (I am a huge fan of full wood stocks).

Unless you're Spanish... nothing doing! For a pure 'for-shits-and-giggles' thing, hell yeah, no order is more gleefully given than 'fire as your guns bear', hollered at the top of your voice from the quarterdeck, promptly followed by the boom of fifty 24 and 36lber cannons, with a few 42/48lber carronades in the mix (point blank double shotted raking broadside FTW!! - Royal Sovereign's first action at Trafalgar).

From a practical point of view, I'd much prefer a third rater, more responsive of the helm, similar firepower (the heavy first raters often couldn't fire their bottom gun deck batteries unless it was completely calm) and structurally tougher (in relative terms).

Incidentally, can you tell I'm a nerd for this kind of thing?! *fnarr* *fnarr*

You might be thinking of the LSW - a light machinegun that looks similiar.

I'm applying for my firearms certificate as we speak and have my sights set on a bolt action Steyr AUG I have seen for sale.

EDIT: Ok, I got ninja'd, but the LSW is part of the same family.
