Well, I don't own a gun yet, but I am a fan of handguns above shotguns.

My father has a Ruger .22, which is the gun I learned to shoot with. It's nice, and I think I will likely get one when I get out of school. That reminds me: I should likely take a gun safety course.

I don't own any firearms personally but I must say I like rifles best. I want to get legal and stuff so I can go hunting eventually but currently I'm unarmed besides airsoft and nerf guns.

In video games? I'm a chronic shotgun guy.

Bolt-action rifles for sure. Although I like anything that shoots stuff at high velocity.

I have a PO8 Luger that was (according to some Luger expert) used in World War I, or at least as old as existing during World War I, and it is a sweet pistol. Nice weight, great recoil, just loading the bullets into a magazine is an absolute *****.

You are wrong, a P-90 is classified as an assualt rifle.
Wellllll... Technically the FN P-90 and H&K MP-7 are both considered "PDW" or "Personal Defense Weapon", both made in competition with one another for NATO standard countries armed forces that were looking for a more effective substitute for submachine guns for vehicle crewmen and other tech personal / base workers. I don't think any other guns have that perticular name, but there will probably be more in the future and I think the FN Five-Seven pistol may fall under that classification.

The problem was that while SMGs were adequately effective in the past for such personnel, advancements in body armor rendered the short range, large calibre 9mm parbellum (or .45ACP) cartriges ineffective, whereas smaller caliber, higher velocity ammunition proved to be more effective against kevlar-ed (or like material) covered enemy forces. Both the P-90 and MP-7 have their own proprietary ammunition one of which is approx 5.7mm?

It's kinda hair splitting, to point this out, admittedly, but the whole point of developing these weapons was to find an effective compromise between submachineguns and assault rifles for indirect combat personal, so the confusion is understandable.

tl;dr - P-90 is technically a 'PDW', but you're both right, sorta and the confusion is understandable.

Time for categories :D

Favorite Guns I've shot:
Rifle(bolt action): Mosin-Nagant 1930-the only one I've shot :(
Assault Rifle: M16A2-also the only one
Sub-Machine Gun: MP5 .40
Semi-Auto Pistol: Springfield XD 9mm
Revolver: S&W .44 Magnum
Shotgun: Harrington and Richardson Topper Model 158 16 Gauge
Carbine: Ruger 9mm
Machine Gun: BAR-only one, so lonely

Favorite Guns I own:
Rifle(bolt action): Mosin-Nagant 1944
Rifle(semi-auto): SU-16CA-still haven't shot it b/c no range close to me allows rifles
Semi-Auto Pistol: Walther P38
Shotgun: Harrington and Richardson Topper Model 158 16 Gauge

Ummm...favorite type would be a tie between semi auto pistols and rifles.

A kindred spirit! :D Man if I'd so love to Captain a 122 gun ship of the line, that would be epic.
Unless you're Spanish... nothing doing! For a pure 'for-shits-and-giggles' thing, hell yeah, no order is more gleefully given than 'fire as your guns bear', hollered at the top of your voice from the quarterdeck, promptly followed by the boom of fifty 24 and 36lber cannons, with a few 42/48lber carronades in the mix (point blank double shotted raking broadside FTW!! - Royal Sovereign's first action at Trafalgar).

From a practical point of view, I'd much prefer a third rater, more responsive of the helm, similar firepower (the heavy first raters often couldn't fire their bottom gun deck batteries unless it was completely calm) and structurally tougher (in relative terms).

Incidentally, can you tell I'm a nerd for this kind of thing?! *fnarr* *fnarr*
I see, I didnt know that about the heavy First Rates. I'd still prefer a second rate :p

Royal Sovereign...was that Lord Nelson's ship out of curiosity?

Yes Im a nerd for naval warfare too TROZ! Got any good replay vids you can share?

ALso a question to keep this thread moving: Ive been watching alot of the A-team on Hulu and it has sparked a question ive had since childhood...What is the name of the assualt rifles they use? Their not M-16's cause their like half wood, but their not AK's either. The ammunition looks like the 7.mm ammo for AKs so always wondered what it is, and why they use them.

Royal Sovereign was V-Adm Cuthbert Collingwood's flagship of the leeward column at Trafalgar, Nelson's was Victory... oldest ship still in commission and the flagship of the Royal Navy... still, even though it hasn't touched water in a decade and a bit or so!

As for the A-Team... Ruger AC556... I think...

Basically this. Assault Rifles are select-fire weapons, meaning you can switch from full-auto, single-shot, burst, or whatever, The P-90 is full auto. But yeah, basically hair-splitting, but it has more in common with an SMG. The MP7 however, is a bit inbetween

OT: I love firearms of any type, and am pretty much a savant when it comes to different guns, calibers, makers etc. because whenever I get interested in things I absorb all knowledge I can. If you have any questions, post them or PM me.

Favorite Bolt Action Rifle: Lee Enfield no. 1 mk. III, smoothest bolt action ever
Favorite Assault Rifle: HK G3
Favorite Semi-Auto Rifle: M1 Carbine
Favorite Semi-Auto Pistol: Colt 1911, but a strong 2nd is the HK USP, and then 3rd is my personal Colt 1903, which was the General Officers pistols up until 1944 IIRC, when Rock Island Armory made the M15, a Modified 1911
Favorite Revolver: Colt Officers Model, Followed my the M1917 and then the Nagant 1897
I know a lot of machine guns, but I haven't had any experience with them, but strictly on engineering and historical factor: the M2
SMGs: again other than an Uzi and an MP5 (very fun) no experience, but probably a M3 (Grease Gun) or an MP40

I've always had a soft spot for the M14 family...
Mainly the enhanced battle rifle variant because of how versatile it is.

The AA12 auto shotgun is all the gun a guy could want. Well, this guy anyways. Load it with beanbags and say hello to the stray cats in your neighborhood.

Having a somewhat small frame, I'm usually happy just shooting pistols. My dad's into Glocks, and I suppose I'm following suit. He's the one who buys the guns, after all.

A double-barrled shotgun, there's just something about the action, the recoil, the noise that makes them awesome.

Sadly, I don't own much myself.
I inherited an H and R .22 LR pistol and a .38 Chief's Special from my dad.
We also have an old 16 gauge double barrel, but we're not sure if any of them are in fire-able condition.
I'd LIKE to own:
Para Ordinance P14-45, or an ludicrously customized SVI 9mm
Mossberg 500, as tactical as they come...
A good old fashioned Lee Enfield, because it's accurate as all heck
and, just for the collectors value
A Finnish Jati-Matic

I think we've had a lot of threads about guns and weaponry. They've just indirect titles of sorts.

Anyway, I perrsonally like blades to fight. it goes back to what my grandfather told me, and I tell anyone who cares to listen. "A fight is always to death, never give up, never surrender, your enemy may not show you the mercy you show them. Always inflict the max you can, and make sure when you kill them, they can see the eyes of the man that sent them straight to hell."

its words to live by.

I prefer a blade, usually an arming sword or katana, but I am also an amazing shot with a hand gun, which is more practical by far these days, so I guess it's a toss-up between the two.

I've always loved the engraved over-under shotgun. Or shotguns such as the FAMARS Rombo(which is pretty much side by side over-unders).

Pure beauty.

I beleive you are talking about the Mini-14

it shoots .223 (5.56) though there is a new one that shoots 6.8mm. There is also the Mini-30 which shoots 7.62x39 which is the AK round. I beleve they used both while filming.

I enjoy shooting all fire arms, but if i had to pick a favorite that I owned it would be my M1 Garand with my Mini-14 and 1911 a very close second and third.
