For those of you wishing to pick up a new MMORPG this year, which would you choose between these two?

Personally I'm shooting for GW2, because I was nuts for GW1. However, TOR has lasers.

Note due to my clever framing, there are only two possible responses. However, I'm going to unleash my psychic powers and say that people are going to repond with variations of "WOW LOL" now, and be proved correct by page 2 (if it makes it) at the latest.

No you can't have "both" because you can't fully commit to two different mmorpg's at once and still be called a human being.

Actually, I can. It's called being balanced and not burning yourself out on one game. :)

Besides, one of them doesn't have a subscription fee so that makes it all the easier.
Which part of "fully commit" did you miss? :)

As much as I love the old republic games, guild wars 2 will be better, and it seems more love has gone into it than the old republic. My Nostalgia says The old republic but my instincts say guild wars 2

Guild wars 2, even though I'm a major Star Wars nerd (and I am planning to get TOR) GW2 just seems to have more going for it. Plus it's 'free'.

What I saw of it, it's concept art, and a slight interview with a design person with GW2, I just can feel the devotion they have for it. Something about GW2 (like with GW) just rings true for me.

Well, Guild Wars isn't even an MMO.

ZING! Heh.

Anyway, I'll be getting TOR but I'll look into GW2 when it actually gets a release date. I tried several times to get into Guild Wars 1 but it was not at all engrossing to me, and no amount of hype the sequel is getting will convince me until I hear some consensus on it from the community a few months after the release.

It would be hard to chose. One the one hand, I don't want TOR to kick the bucket and tank, but on the other hand, I want Bioware to be taught that making am MMO instead of a sequel is bad, bad, bad!

But then, I don't play MMOs, so I'd be damned if it mattered to me, or if my opinion mattered.

But I have a feeling that more of you would pick up Guild Wars 2 if you actually knew about what it is doing.
You could fit a small-sized solar system into the gap between what developers say they're doing and what actually gets done.

(Note, this applies to both TOR and GW2, and most games in general)

GW2, hands down. No subscription, improved gameplay, and while I love John Williams, I've heard all the SW music there is and need something new. That and it doesn't look like a WoW clone with dialogue options tacked on.

You know, Arena-net said that if you hate MMOs you should definitely check out GW2. It's in their Manifesto trailer.

Anyway, I chose Guild Wars 2, because I love the game. I've been closely following every piece of information since two years. I love everything about the game (though I've had reservations for several of the game mechanics. But most of those problems are fixed now).

Guild Wars 2 without a doubt. I don't tend to get hooked on MMORPGs, so not having to pay a subscription fee on top of the cost of the game itself will be a plus, and it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. I'll probably miss the multiclass ability of the first one, though.
