Not entirely serious, maybe.

Don't let missing the first GW discourage you, they're leagues apart, and GW2 is set around 250 years into the future so retaining all the lore isn't as necessary.
Oh I most definitely have a good amount of interest in GW2 (I didn't know about it's "lore disconnection" from the events of the first game, but that's good to know)
Knowing me, I most likely will try it out at some point. But I mostly meant that I'd certainly be much more excited for GW2 if I had played the first one.

But since I didn't, I've only got a mild interest in it.

For those of you wishing to pick up a new MMORPG this year, which would you choose between these two?
Well, Guild Wars isn't even an MMO.

ZING! Heh.

Anyway, I'll be getting TOR but I'll look into GW2 when it actually gets a release date. I tried several times to get into Guild Wars 1 but it was not at all engrossing to me, and no amount of hype the sequel is getting will convince me until I hear some consensus on it from the community a few months after the release.
You're right that GW1 was not a true MMO, but from the information released so far for GW2, Anet is making a true MMO with more innovation than current MMOs. The GW2 site is packed with mouthwatering tid-bits.

I apologize for sounding so much like a sales person.

BTW I love how all of the people from the Guild Wars group on the Escapist have all rallied ... it's as though we constantly scan for any thread with 'GW2' in the title to defend our livelihood. THAT is a group banding together.

Guild Wars TOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I really like what I saw of the dynamic world events and the not-quite-fantasy-but-not-quite-contemporary weapons and classes in the game.

Only in GW2 can you rocket jump with the engineer.

Also, the graphics for The Old Republic bother me a little. It still looks like KotOR, which came out 8 years ago. It just looks kind of dated.

Its a question of wow clone combat but with a story against new combat system with (AFAIK) no story so it could go either way, but its perfectly doable to play them both.

As awesome as TOR may look, everyone that has actually played it has been disappointed. (not that such an early version is that reliable though)

As much as I love the old republic games, guild wars 2 will be better, and it seems more love has gone into it than the old republic. My Nostalgia says The old republic but my instincts say guild wars 2
Which one has the higher frequency of being right, your gut or your nostalgia?
