If GW2 hopes to even shine a light to the solar fury that is WoW they'd better change the game a lot compared to it's predecessor. I found the first guild wars lacking in almost every avenue (although i did find myself being very fond of the secondary class system.)
My money is GW2 will go the way of every other new MMO, in which it will gain an instant burst of suscribes looking for something new. Many of these will be WoW players and will hate that the new game is buggy and flawed due to the fact it hasn't been balanced perfectly just yet, and they will leave it. Soon a lot of people will leave the game for similar reasons, and it will die.
WoW is too polished, years have been spent balancing it and adding content for all types of players. There is so much to do within the universe of WoW itself, and loads of background story to most of it. This is why i think it won't be challenged yet.
Although, when blizz releases their new MMO i bet that might tempt some players away from WoW, perhaps giving an underdog MMO a chance to creep in and become a success.
