I don't play WOW to raid day and nite and kill x mob x amount of times, i play for the people, ive met some amazing friends over the 6 years ive played, friends ive met up with, friends i might possibly live with while going to uni. Its only partly about the game, i can't speak for guild wars but not matter if i have more fun playing any other game, WOW will always be the best game ive ever played, the best people ive ever played with. Theres very few other games i can log onto and chat to a husband and wife and their son or six people from Denmark who are all in a rock band and everyone be equals.

I feel that wow is still going to be dominating, but the guild wars is still going to take a good chunk out of it's pie.

Ok just to say Guild Wars 2 is not making itself out to be a woW killer or clone. Guild Wars always has and strives to be on the opposite spectrum of the MMO genre as WoW. Also if anyone does want to discuss GW1 or 2 we do have a group. Just saying...

I've never been much of a fan of MMORPG's, yet I have played WoW for a shiatload of time (which, in retrospect, I seriously regret), mainly for the storyline and the PvP'ing and to make the permanent whining of classmates stop. After having grinded my Nelfy Priest to level 70-80-85 and all the gearing up for PvE and PvP, having downed the stuff you needed to down, achievements become the interesting thing in the game, which also is a massive grind. So I've pretty much quit the thing, because frustration > fun, also because Cataclysm is poor when compared to Burning Crusade(which was the best expansion for the bloody game).

Tl;dr, I'd rather spend my time studying and enjoying myself with a more interesting game with less grind, such as Portal and Mirror's Edge (and whatever RTS you can come up with).

IF GW2 is free like the first one (subscription wise) then It wont even have an affect on WoW's playerbase.

Now I'm significantly more interested in GW2 then any WoW expansion pack, that ship has sailed. But there's barely any information on GW2 and you make a thread asking people which is better? They don't even have a release day on that shit, for god's sake.

Honestly, even if GW2 lived up to its hype, it wouldn't kill wow. Nothing can except another blizzard MMO.

It has nothing to do with my personal preference, but WoW is such a juggernaut that I don't think enough people will switch to guild wars.

I haven't read through all 4 pages so I apologize if this has been said, but the main falacy in the argument is that GW2 will not subscription based so it isn't trying to compete with WoW.

About the whole longevity thing GW1 has been out around the same amount of time as WoW and even without a subscription it is still active and profitable for the Devs.

I like to think that someday we'll get an MMO that's completely different that anything we've seen before, unfortunately no company is willing gamble that much money when they can get a safe return just making a WoW variation. Guild wars 2 will NOT outsell WoW in a million years, doesn't mean it won't be a massive success though, heres hoping :)

I don't think anything will ever take down WoW, not even a sequel of some kind. Regardless I'll never get WoW unless it goes completely free, I've been playing Guild Wars for 5 years and I'll get GW2 on release.

I posted my opinions a while back, but I think I'll add this:

Best case scenario:
GW2 ends up being an absolutely incredible game in every way. Every house that has a computer has a copy. It revolutionizes the genre.

Worst case scenario:
GW2 ends up being a pretty good game. It has a playerbase with numbers roughly equivalent to GW1. It revolutionizes the genre.

Because as someone (I believe from Penny Arcade) said, whether or not the game is good, and even if it doesn't end up coming out, it has already had a positive effect on MMOs. The developers have looked critically at the genre, highlighted what works and what doesn't work, and looked for ways to cut out or minimize the unpleasant aspects of the genre while adding a personalized feel that helps the genre toward living up to its potential as the most immersive and personal form of RPG.

Even in the unlikely event that GW2 completely flops, I'm sure we'll see many aspects of it cropping up in future MMOs like Titan.

Wow.

Because nothing beats wow.
what about chuck norris
Have you ever seen them both in one place at the same time?
Yes, and he was roundhousing its face off, he was about to kill it but felt sorry for WoW and it's desire to suck souls into its gorge of greed but walked away saying that wasn't worth the effort to kill.
That was a Wow robot to divert suspicion.
