The stories won't make any sense whatsoever. I would also suggest that you play HL1 if you want some more background. I'm sorry you find HL2 boring, but it is actually better than RDR and Halo 3 (haven't played the others) in terms of story and gameplay.

Half-Life 2 =/= boring.

And if you think it is, for whatever mindboggling reason that may be, you'll probably find the episodes boring as well.

Yeah, it's pretty much all part of the same story. Not so much a sequel as the later part of the game to me. So no point in skipping it.

Like the other guy said how far into the game are you, get to ravenholm before passing judgment.

Also why would you play the episodes if your not even going to finish the main game, that just seems strange.
Past Ravelnholm, on some highway. I loved ravelnholm BTW, just not the rest.

The highway is a particularly boring stretch, but stick it through, Nova Prospekt and City 17 are incredibly fun and intense.

Like, really.

Definatly not, you'll miss the story behind the episodes and the emotional connections to characters.

HL2 is about the same lengths as the episodes put together. So you don't want to miss half of the story and gameplay by skipping to the episodes. Also skipping to the episodes will make some of the references kind of confusing.

Oh and if you didn't like HL2 you won't like the episodes. They are more of the same.

You played it when it came out, so compared to the other shooters of today, in my opinion (everyone has one) it's boring. Not ravelnholm, just everything else.

I didn't play it when it came out. I played it a good lot later, around 2007, 2008 I think. It was out three/four years by then.

It's probably because HL2 doesn't have regen health that babies most FPS players haha.

If you don't like HL2 don't play the other episodes, it's a lot more of the same if not tuned up a bit more.

Half Life 2 was far better than either of the episodes in my opinion. Episode 1 is boring and easy, and then 2 is frustrating and hard. HL2 splits the difference and is way better for it.

I never got why people say it's boring D:

I didn't play it too near it's release date and there was no hype, i just genuinely found it fun and still do.
Are people expecting flashy effects and cinematics? I wouldn't know since i don't play modern FPS's.

One of my favourite parts of HL2 was the storytelling. You interpret it rather than just get it yelled in your face by npcs. You play it for fun once and play it again to discover more clues ;D

it DEFINATLY picks up after ravenholm, because by then you will have the shotgun and it = FUN!

PS: i played halo and MW before half life 2 and i definatly found HL2 more fun than them.

PPS: if you like HL2 and the episodes, i'd advise you pick up HL1. it's incredibly worse graphics and no physiscs engine but it's a good story and has lasers.

No as they're all part of a story, and the story is one of the better parts of the series. If you didn't like HL2 then the Episodes aren't much different from it so don't bother.

Nevertheless, I only got it this year.

Don't bother skipping there's no real point to that.

Only thing I can say is if you don't like what you've seen so far there isn't alot that's gonna change for you. I found the games pretty average from start to finish with only a few moments really interesting me.

I found it started kinda slow but then once I got into that first chase my heart was pounding and it just keeps building and building I find. Maybe it's not just for you though but I find it extremely exciting.

Is this really a question? HL2 isn't about big explosions like BFBC2. It still has some of the best facial animation in the biz (after 6 ENTIRE YEARS after release), some of the sharpest writing, most memorable scenes, physics, characters you really care about and an interesting setting. Also the level of interactivity you can have with the environment is still met only by a few games.

And really, ep. 1 doesn't make any sense unless you play HL2, and you wouldn't even know most of the characters.
