No, do not skip HL2.

I don't want to sound like I'm flaming with this but you're being a bit silly looping HL2 with 'other shooters' in my opinion as it's more story driven than games such as Battlefield or Halo. Also, ME2 is an RPG and RDR is more sandbox than shooter but these are basically points for another topic.

I still think it's an amazing shooter to this day, and one of my favorite games of all-time. There really isn't much of a point to getting pumped for Episode 3 if you didn't like the first few installments, though. Although I'm sure everyone who liked HL2 will love Episode 3, I don't think it'd be enough to win you over if the original is boring you.

Of course, that said, Episode 2 is the highlight of the series thus far. And, I'm of the opinion that, no matter how much they dread it, anyone who calls themselves a gamer should play through Half-Life 2 just because of its significance to the gaming world. Kind of like how people have to play a Mario game and a Final Fantasy game at some point to understand what they're all about.

I didn't like HL2 either. And it DOESN'T get better, at least not until the very end of the game. Definitively not in Ravenholm, quite possibly one of the less fun levels of the game, which is quite the accomplishment.

But if you don't play through it, you're not going to get what happens in the episodes. So if you care about the storyline, man up, lower the difficulty settings, and get through it. If not, the episodes are a lot better than HL2, so it's worth it.

Half life 2 isn't boring and if you think that is boring you will be more confused and bored playing episode 1 and 2.

I played HL2 first time with the Orange Box release, and I did find it a bit tricky and in places almost boring for the trickiness. I too had been playing hand-holding FPS like the CoDs and was getting a little annoyed. But if you stick with it just a tiny bit longer, I'm confident you'll realise how awesome it is; I did. I played the eps through in nearly one sitting, I loved it all so much.

ha 192 people voted and only 3 said yes

as it stands the episodes are the same as half life 2 but theres 2 of them and the are shorter

on the other hand i still hold episode 2 (even due to it being an episode rather than a game) to be my favorite offline game ever

Yes. Orange box was my first FPS ever, so I was very bored by the lack of flying. Ep 1 was paced correctly to get me into the genre, something CoD 3, Doom 3, and Quake had all failed. I then played HL2, and skipped over to Ep2. The story wasn't really clear to me, but I had too much fun SMGing the combine in their face to care. (BTW, now that I know how to play FPS, I've found that all of the listed games were quite good.)

Skip it. HL2 won't get any better, trust me. I didn't care too much for it, and it ended up pretty much ruining the series for me (Although I did like Episode 1 and 2 much more).

Just play Episode 1 and 2.

Episode 1 kinda sucked. Dragged on for too long, and not very memorable or fun. Episode 2 was much better IMO. I'd say skip Ep1 and go to Ep2.
