Why do I get the feelig that Escapist is the only site that is discussing the merits of a game that is not even announced. First of all, why would you start a topic like that If you don't believe it will be released? To rub it on the face of the fans who do? Why bring up a discussion with no discussion value or concrete data to base off of. It looks like you have been on this site long enough. Haven't you seen the other threads about HL3's release date that went to nowhere and just caused empty noise and lots of bitterness for absolutely no reason?

Play something else, talk about the games that you actually played, and be adequate.

Oh OT: Yes, yes I do.

I would recommend people stop discussing it, the more threads like this that are made the more it hypes it up and the more everybody will be disappointed when it doesn't cure cancer while giving them a blow job/cunnilingus.

Even if it does come out, it will probably never reach the level of hype that it built up, leaving a bunch of people disappointed.

I just don't care anymore.

I loved Half-Life and it's games. I played through HL Ep2 and was left absolutely speechless by the giant "fuck you" cliff hanger. Then I waited with giddy anticipation for HL Ep3...

...and waited
...and waited
...and waited

I just don't care anymore. I'm tired and jaded at Valve for this and I just plain don't care anymore. I will no longer purchase any story games from Valve after this kind of treatment.

So come on out Episode 3 or whatever you want to call yourself. Or don't come out. I don't care anymore. You've crushed the love I've had of your series out of me with this wait.

Valve have truly fucked themselves with this though. They shouldn't of waited so long (if it ever does come). Not only will it not live up to the hype at all, I can easily see it being the most pirated game ever.
A Valve game? The most pirated ever?

Have you SEEN Valve fans?!

OT: I think it'll come eventually, but that they're going from being coy to being dicks about the suspense at this point.

I think that it's either going to take so long that people stop caring and that it surprises people or the more likely option that when it's out it could cure cancer and cause world peace and still not live up to expectations.

I'm not sure if it will come or not, but I kinda understand why it's taking so long. Valve's open structure leaves the developers free to work on the projects they want. Now if I were to choose would I pick the really risky project where I might end up as one of the person to be blamed when my work isn't the second coming of Darwin or one of those projects people kinda want? Yeah, it's a really stressful option to pick Half-Life 3 while so many other projects are relatively low risk. It might come at some point, but I'm not sure. Maybe when people stop caring because they stop caring?

They wrote themselves into a corner. I really don't know how they could continue the series without amazing amounts of bullshit, and I don't think they do either.
But maybe I'm just silly and don't trust enough in the MIGHTY BEARD OF GABEN.

My response was basically ninja'd. But its good to see im not the only one to think this.

I mean really, its been five years. If it does come out, its gonna be crap. Not because its a bad game, but because expectations have been so high for it, there's no way it could possibly sate them. Valve should have been working on it and put it out three or more years ago, back when the iron was still somewhat hot.

I've been waiting for a long time for it and at this point I've really stopped caring about it.

If it ever comes out I will play it like everyone else, but this is becoming ridiculous at the point where it's not even funny anymore.

Either Valve are some lazy bastards like George R.R Martin that take forever to write a book (I will probably get flamed for this, but 6 years for a book really? I don't care how old you are that's just uhhg) or the smell of money that they made from Steam has pushed them away from actually developing any games and just place them in their backlog.

I haven't even played Episode One and Two when I heard that they didn't even bothered to release any other episodes because the story is incomplete so why would I play something that is not finished? I'd rather not.

I think it's definitely a question of "when" instead of "if". It'll be a day 1 purchase for me but you know what? I'm not bothered that it's taking this long. I have enough games in my backlog and there are plenty of good ones on the horizon, why get worked up about this?

I want to play the next chapter of Freeman's saga as much as the next fan but it's not worth stressing over.

I don't know why people are so keen for this game anyway.
It's less a case of "Hl2 was the 2nd coming of Jesus" and more "Every other shooter sucked *** back then". When you're used to eating slop every meal, that one slice of pizza tastes so much better :p

OT: I would hope they finish HL2EP3 with a big bang, then wait for a decent engine (Frostbite 2.0 or whatever) and start over with that for HL3. So imo, we're at least 10 years away from a possible HL3 release date.

I have hope that it is coming out.
I do not have hope that it will be good though. :/

I'm just wondering what Gabe is thinking.
Isn't he feeling sick that the internet has made a meme/s out of him?

Personally I don't really care.

I'm kind of approaching this myself. HL2ep2 was motherfucking great, and TF2 at the time was great.
But then...
Valve started taking forever to even say something about Ep3 and then started systematically ruining TF2. I'm frankly just not expecting much at this point. Yeah, Valve are good developers and not as dickish as many other developers or publishers, but that doesn't make them inmune to at least some criticism.

It's obvious (to me) at this point that they're holding off on Half-Life 3 until they get the Source successor engine finished. Source, despite being a very robust engine, is starting to show its age, and I'm pretty sure Gabe acknowledged at one point that the episodic model was a disaster and that they weren't going to attempt it again.

Valve knows people want Half-Life 3. Gabe knows. Believe me, they know. In the end,my money is on Half-Life 3 on Source... 2. Whatever they end up calling it.

I expect they will eventually release a proper Half-Life 3, scrapping the "Episodes" because they've already said the episodic format isn't working out. I'm not in a hurry though. You can't rush quality.

NO, IT'S REALLY NOT. IN FACT, IT'S OLDER THAN MOST OF THE POSTERS ON THIS SITE.

Please please please stop talking about this tired tried title. It's going to be like Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 3. Why not have Valve release comics detailing the ending? They seem to like comics and it's infinitely cheaper and requires less time than a game.
Hey, it's better than the Mass Effect 3 ending threads, that dead horse was beaten so much we fissioned its atoms and caused a nuclear explosion and then we still kept going at it.

I sincerely doubt Half Life 3 will ever come out.

You wanna know what's going to happen?

Sometime within the next decade, and no one knows when, they are going to release the next Half Life. The fact that people release subsequent games associated with a popular IP should not be considered surprising. It will be simultaneously a good game (Because its a Valve game) and disappointing because it has been built up over all these years. Valve are one of the last remaining bastions of developers releasing gamed based on when it is done, and not an optimal business model, and we shouldn't be screwing with that. Good on them for taking their sweet time, their only sin is being needlessly stingy with information.

In the meantime, you can look forward to the next Half Life with excitement or indifference all you want, and while waiting, there are no shortage of OTHER good games to play. You don't need Half Life to legitimize your hobby. It is not preventing you from having a lot of fun with, say, Bioshock Infinite. The fact that Half Life games keep us waiting with long development cycles are a major reason why we look forward to them impatiently in the FIRST place. You do not lose anything waiting for the next HL, except maybe a few awesome games on your Steam backlog.

Probably. I won't get it though. I've completely lost interest in the series at this point. Games that fall firmly into the category of 'pretty good' shouldn't take this long to come out between parts of the story.

Blizzard is on this too. And between Diablo 3 and Heart of the Swarm I couldn't be more disappointed.
