So we all know that Halo series is amazingly popular, and now bungie (team who made Halo up until now) have handed it off to 343 Industries. Just wondering what your general opinion is if 343 Could make a Halo title that could reach the standard of bungie's previous games?

Me; Nah. Halo is made awesome because it was custom built by Bungie, and i don't know of another developer has the special sauce that makes a Halo game great. But that won't stop me from taking a look.

I'm saying maybe, because I think that Bungie did all they could for Halo, and they needed to move on, and I think that the series could be good in the hands of someone else. And anyway, I'd quite like new enemies in the Halo universe.

I'm disappointed that a Halo 4 is even being made. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the series. It ended on a strong note and Bungie departed. Now Microsoft is taking over. Yummy.

I said possibly, because Halo is a really good series and I anticipate any developer who takes over something like this isn't going to stray too far from the formula and take any big chances. So more of the same, if it was good in the first place, will probably be good.

That doesn't mean I condone a lack of innovation though, but thats a different ball of worms... or can of wax...

Aren't a lot of the actual people developing it the same? I was given to understand that 343 was full of Bungie veterans.

Eh, we'll see. Probably won't buy it right away, but that's mostly because looking at my game collection, I have way too many shooters as it is.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

OT: Maybe they fuck it up, maybe they make it even better.
Or they score on some middle ground, who knows?
We can only guess now, only time will show us the real results.
Thus I voted "possibly".

Damn, I was trying to think of an actual good 4th sequel when I made that post and I can't believe that one slipped the net.

However, as an excuse I can point out that technically CoD4 is actual the 3rd sequel since it was Infinty Ward's 3rd CoD game. Their 4th CoD was Modern Warfare, which sucked, so it does ultimately balance out.

Honestly, I think it will be fine. There will be some initial fan rejection who are peeved its not bungie but when the multiplayer gets rolling and new features are available people are going to be fine with it. Perhaps it wont be the juggernaut it once was, but was ODST a revalation? It will be fine if for no other reason than shooter fans need a viable alternative to modern/past war games, and Halo is among the best of Sci fi themed shooters.

Call of Duty is more of a brand name. COD4 was no more a sequel than different pairs of Nike shoes are sequels to each other.

That being said, it seems 343 is going to actually expand the Halo universe, which is an important step in making a good sequel. The big question is whether it'll be polished like a Bungie title, which IMO seems unlikely.

It's going to be good, regardless of what the bungie fans out there think. Halo is microsofts franchise and they can not afford to release one that is bad. Plus I imagine 343 feels like it has to make the game amazing because people dont think a good halo can be made by someone who isn't bungie.

I guess we'll see when it comes out.

343 industries has a lot of the crew who founded Combat Evolved if im not mistaken, plus the Halo style has been essentially set in stone since Halo 2 (Combat Evolved was more clunky). Im sure they know EXACTLY what they need to do to bring their game on par with the other Halos (not that im saying their all good, but they at least get their movement and mechanics nice and fluid).

Also Treyarch seem to have seriously upped their game between World at War and Black Ops, so I dont see why anohter studio cant live up to the name of a different series.

Halo may be amazingly popular, but I personally don't really like it. Maybe it's the fact that my flatmate decided it would be ever so convenient to become obsessed with Halo: Reach that now he has become a decaying corpse, controller in hand, being too damn lazy to help me clear up the flat, or even swat that fly that seems to like sitting on his eye.

But I digress. Halo being in the hands of 343 will be akin to whomever the creators of COD 4 handed the series over and made that terrible COD: BlOPS. Honestly, so much for all the realism put into that game. if I wanted that level of realism, I would quite happily of watched my offspring's favourite TV show, that one with the pink dinosaur in. Why don't the kids in that show think they have schizophrenia? Oh, yeah, because children are actually nothing more than mentally-handicapped people stuck in tiny bodies.

Let us keep this game dead, and bring out some better ones. I hear they're making a remake of FF7. I'd rather get that than a new Halo game.

So, now that I've said that, I do believe I must actually discover a way to wake the dead and get my lazy friend to clean the flat.

I've only played the first 3 games, and I really don't see the need for a fourth. Halo 3 was for the most part unsatisfactory; the story felt pretty weak by the end of the game. I enjoyed Halo and Halo 2 greatly, but Halo 3 just didn't do it for me. I still haven't gotten around to playing ODST or Reach yet.

EDIT: I voted yes because I believe that it really wouldn't be too hard to make a game of the same 'quality' as Halo 3.

Hold on, the 3rd sequel IS the 4th object.

1st game
1st sequel
2nd sequel
3rd sequel.

But regardless, we'll use your logic in this instance just for fun.

Halo 1, 2, 3, Reach and ODST were made by Bungie. BUT, because Bungie aren't making Halo 4, it doesn't count as a sequel.

That's your logic because CoD 1, 2, and 4 were made by IW and 3 was Treyarch, 3 doesn't count as being in the series.

Tah-dah. I hope you realise how silly this sounds now :)

I'm actually hopeful for the sole reason that, and this is an educated guess made by the 30 second trailer, it looks like 343 is going to finally acknowledge some of the wider canon of the Halo universe. In the trailer, the forward half of In Amber Clad was shown drifting toward what I'm going to wager looks like a Dyson Sphere in the Haloverse, leading me to believe that it's Onyx and the game is going to finally[i/] include the other Spartans.

The fourth Star Wars movie, Phantom Menace. Put some thought into your post before you open your mouth.
