However, as an excuse I can point out that technically CoD4 is actual the 3rd sequel since it was Infinty Ward's 3rd CoD game. Their 4th CoD was Modern Warfare, which sucked, so it does ultimately balance out.
Hold on, the 3rd sequel IS the 4th object.

1st game
1st sequel
2nd sequel
3rd sequel.

But regardless, we'll use your logic in this instance just for fun.

Halo 1, 2, 3, Reach and ODST were made by Bungie. BUT, because Bungie aren't making Halo 4, it doesn't count as a sequel.

That's your logic because CoD 1, 2, and 4 were made by IW and 3 was Treyarch, 3 doesn't count as being in the series.

Tah-dah. I hope you realise how silly this sounds now :)
A-ha, I stand corrected, my good sir!

... Still probably gonna suck though.

...No, I didn't think so.
The fourth Star Wars movie, Phantom Menace. Put some thought into your post before you open your mouth.
Since when was that a good movie?

I have trust in 343, it is made up of very skilled designers from a wide range of dev teams, such as the team behind metroid prime, and they have shown to be just as active in interacting with the fan base as bungie.

Now, MS on the other hand has not shown that same thing.

Yes. Why not, they have been recruiting skilled people for a while, and I'm sure this is going to be their game which demonstrates where they are capable of.

I am hoping they give it their all. I love Halo and I don't want to see it dragged through the mud casue Microsoft wants money.

That said, I realistically expect nothing more than CoD...IN SPAAAAACE!!!

Seriously? All the new characters, the action, the beginning of a new and improved trilogy? Come on.

I have a hunch that 343i will just try to make a Halo game the way the way that Bungie did. They will do a carbon copy of their dev cycle and not try to turn it into their own thing. It's a new trilogy after all, they could completely change the tone of the game.

There are only 2 things I want them to keep entirely the same: the character personalities/voices and the tone of the multiplayer. You know what I mean, the game that tracks all your stats and has a competitive aspect, but is made with a goofy tone and to be FUN. Remember that, FUN?

I think that we can only wait and see. Bungie set the bar pretty high in my opinion and I'd hate to see the Chief's return be a crappy one. I still don't think that there needed to be another Halo game though. I don't want to see it get run into the ground.

It'll probably be solid, well made with decent workmanship and design, fairly fun and what I'd call acceptable, but nothing groundbreaking, just like the rest of the Halo games. So yes, it probably will manage to.

The question is, why would you even bother getting Halo 4? The main selling point of the last halo game was the online. If Microsoft just does the same thing that was in Halo Reach, then there really is no reason to get it. If they try to do something different, they will probably mess it up.

It's also really pathetic that Microsoft is trying to milk Bungie's intellectual property. It would make more sense if at least Bungie was the one milking their own franchise. Basically, I feel like this is going to be just like Dragonball GT. An animation company tried milking the Dragonball franchise well after the original creator left and they made it suck.

MGS 4, GTA 4, and Die Hard 4 were all really good sequels too. I certainly liked Die Hard 4 more than Die Hard 3.

What about Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare?
Damn, I was trying to think of an actual good 4th sequel when I made that post and I can't believe that one slipped the net.

However, as an excuse I can point out that technically CoD4 is actual the 3rd sequel since it was Infinty Ward's 3rd CoD game. Their 4th CoD was Modern Warfare, which sucked, so it does ultimately balance out.
I think you mean, their 4th game was MW2.

Ignoring the semantics of Game X is the first game Game X: Part 2 is the first sequel and Game X: Part 65 is actually the Sixty-fourth sequel.

But if your logic holds that infinity ward didn't make the first game then this should apply for 343 having not made any Halo games, so this won't even be a sequel by that logic.

OT: I don't know, I will reserve judgement for when I've actually played the game. I also didn't vote. I just like to pick on people. :)

I really can't tell if you're kidding (text only, and all that), but the Star Wars prequels are the prime example of "why they should've left well enough alone". Even more so then Indy 4.

I could state the reasons why, but it'll be easier for me to just point you towards RedLetterMedia's direction.

why not?
it's not like halo changed much in the last 10 years, so you have enough examples of how to do it right.

Aren't a lot of the actual people developing it the same? I was given to understand that 343 was full of Bungie veterans.
I was under the impression that this ^ was true. I thought that 343 was essentially a lot of the Bunjie team just flying a different flag (I can't remember the exact metaphor but oh well).

OT: Yeah I think it will do just fine.

Doesn't make it bad and Halo Reach was the 4th game in the franchise making Halo 4 just the 5th. I guess that's why games and movies have a habit of not putting the 4 at the end of new releases as to remove the negative feeling that it's going to be bad.

From all I've seen they are dumping the old game on a new engine and shipping, profit ftw!

So yea it will have the Bungie standards, cuz it will just be the old game.
