i loved halo combat evolved on the pc, big maps, tons of custom content = awsome, never played halo 2 multiplayer as i didnt have an xbox so when it came to vista no one played on the mp side... halo 3 was alright but i didnt like the smaller maps and lack of vehicles in maps were as halo reach has hit the nail on the head for me... big team battles + lots of vehicles = win for me.

I buy Halo for the story mainly but I have to say I was really let down by the story on Reach but the online is so much fun.

the problem i have with it is not so much in the game but with the people you find in random matches. they are either loud obnoxious teenagers who believe that anyone better than them is "HAXXXXOORRR SCUM" or one of the many other annoying cliches. maybe i just hang out on the wrong matches but it kinda ruined the multiplayer for me.

also a game should focus more on its SP side, IMO.

Waw did you figure out that halo reach is a prequel to halo 3 on your own or did someone help you?

I think playing locally or across LAN is way better than live regardless of the game. Probably the main reason why I don't have live.

I was playing again earlier and it kills me that it's loved quite so much, honestly, I just don't get it. I did play a lot of Halo 3 with friends and it's not like I suck at the game but I spent most of my time today just getting frustrated at it. The kills don't feel rewarding because of how many bullets need to be plowed into players, except for snipers, rockets etc, and the sci-fi, softened noises of the guns just don't do it for me.

I realise it's just for fun, and shouldn't be taken too seriously, but to think that people get addicted to it, and they do, just confuses me. I feel like I'm missing a game that isn't just pretty run of the mill and wish I knew why.

PS. The worrying part is, I think I might just be coming to realise that as I've grown up, I've stopped playing games online as much as I used to. Pulling towards wanting a good single player experience rather than accepting average online because friends are there too; makes me worry about becoming a casual gamer/how much time I've wasted.

I like it, bar the lack of variety in the Forge World maps and the fact the credits system is very flawed. It only rewards killing people and lengthy games, so it feels pointless doing objective games where you need to capture flags or plant bombs because it won't reward you much for it. Firefight is perhaps the best mode out there to play, Infection as well.

Although I won't deny it is fun and addictive, especially with friends.
"The first matchmaking update for Reach will occur in early October and consist primarily of fixes for bugs and balance issues. We're not done testing them all yet, but when they're ready we'll fill you in on all of the little details. We'll also be adding some game types and Forge maps. Co-op campaign will be going live in October as well.

Campaign matchmaking will not take into account what your current progress is, so if you're worried about spoilers make sure you finish campaign before jumping into this playlist!"

Frustrated while playing a Halo game? If you're getting frustrated you must not be playing the right game, from my experience it is hard to get pissed off on Halo, even when my entire team left except one person, me and the other guy had so much fun trying to win against impossible odds. The game is so lovingly un-serious I find it hard to get frustrated unlike MW2, Gears of War, fighting games etc...

Its probably got the best range of modes and variations in this gen's range of online shooters. One game I can be in a slayer, the next I can be doing a mongoose rally, and then I can be shooting zombies.

EDIT: If there's two things that annoy me, is that some maps have very unbalanced advantage points, and that there's too many Forgeworld maps than actual unqiue maps.

I mean, it's not like the online community is great, and putting people on equal levels (without weapon unlocks, etc) will surely just make it get repetitive or systematic?
Get on Forge, play Grifball.

The 'community' in matchmaking sucks, but otherwise Halo has the best community on Live, it would be a good community for a PC game. There's bags of free stuff on it all the time and plenty of builders.

PS, I quite like Halo multiplayer, it allows for massive amounts of silliness.
It's a lot less formulaic than something like Modern Warfare/2, which besides unlocks offers you basically nothing. Once you'r edone grinding there is no reason to play the game, no creativity and seemingly no willingness to even et other people play the game.

I don't like the power weapon balance model, don't like how durable enemies are, don't like energy weapons, and like unlocking things.

So I don't like it, but it's well done and I could easily see how people play it so much.

I only cared about the story and beating it on legendary, which I've already done. Shame there isn't a lobby for randoms that wanna try the co-op campaign since the current setup is too heavily friend list-reliant.

Hmmm... isn't MW2 just MW but with new maps and graphics and just about any other fps with online multiplayer?

I've never been a massive fan of competitive multiplayer. I did try it once or twice at a friends house and didn't enjoy it at all, Counter Strike remains the only multiplayer FPS I've enjoyed.

First person shooters are overrated, and Halo is the worst of the lot for the hype. Overall, every FPS title in the past 5 years has been average at best.

Halo: Reach was meant to be like a band's "Greatest Hits" album, besides, i like the firefight mode and the customization they put into it (like Forge World... best. FPS thing. EVER!)
Well it didn't endear itself to me. Am i not entitled to a opinion
making ignorant uninformed remarks such as "Halo: Reach is just Halo 3 with load-outs and new maps and better graphics" is NOT an opinion.

it's like a racist saying all people of a certain race are evil is an opinion, or that believing all rock music is about devil-worship is an opinion, or that all videogames are bad influences on everyone who plays them, because those JUST as equally ignorant and uninformed statements as any generalization

I think this is probably my problem, I have taken it seriously in the past and that's something I find hard to switch off. After playing with a clan like group of friends and playing for the win, as well as for fun, I get annoyed if I don't play as well as I know I can, which is missing the point of Halo.

As for Gears, I could never, ever take that seriously online. It's a mess of a multiplayer game.
