I think they might have been thinking about putting it in... I mean, think about all the food you get now and it serves no reasonable purpose. You arent going to use them to heal yourself... thats ridiculous. And with arrows weighing nothing, I really do think they had planned on having a Hardcore mode in the early stages.

I don't use hardcore mode so it wouldn't affect me at all, but I doubt it would be all that difficult to implement.

It would be nice. Though having to drink would be pointless b/c there's flowing water everywhere, even in the dungeons.
If corpses would contaminate water on the other hand... that would add something to the game I think

But yeah, food would finally have a purpose, so that would be neat

I'd enjoy a hardcore mode, as long as it resulted more in foraging and scrounging for food/supplies vs. just making you carry stuff around to stay alive. Give food expiration times to prevent stocking up, maybe?

yeah, and in hardcore mode fast travel is turned off. sure, this might make it appeal to less people, but it would make the game that much more immersive to me.
No it wasn't. You could still fast travel just not if the distance/time it would take to get there would cause your hunger, hydration, or sleep would kill you.
umm, no what wasn't? anyways, i'd rather discover how much i can walk before dying myself rather than have the loading screen express tell me. maybe its just me, but you know.
I don't really know what you're contesting there. You totally could quick travel in Hardcore Mode
i'm not contesting anything, i just said i'd like it better if you couldn't fast travel in hardcore mode, you silly silly person.

You can just not use fast travel you know. The game never forces you to use it.
i'm aware of this yes, and of course in TOS its not nearly as much a problem as in fallout, where walking is your only option. i really don't have a problem with fast travel as a mechanic, but something in universe would break me out of the game a lot less.

like a teleportation spell, or do wow style and have flying animals cart your ass everywhere. i would like that a lot better.

You know if you took this concept slightly further and added a few more bars and then changed the camera... you'd have the sims.

I'm not a fan of hardcore mode. I like my games to be fun and I don't find more arbitrary bars and meters to watch to be more fun, only more complicated.

Sure, but you realize what needs to be made for these systems to work?

Teleportation spell: Either need various versions of the spell for each location or have a pop-up asking where the player wants to go. Using a Mark and Recall system requires variables. Requires play testing.

Flying animals: You need animations, the animals in question to be models and textured. Then you need possible sound effects, price checking, and play testing.

Current Skyrim Fast Travel: Click and go. Player set to designated area, no sound effects, no animations, minor play testing compared to the other two options.
yeah cuz there's certainly a shortage of people who would have had a heart attack if they were asked to beta test for skyrim.

The "Clear skies" dragon shout is a 1 time per day only ability..
that'd break two quests......1.when you have to climb all the way to the throat of the world and the last quest when you kill *the evil thing*

There wasn't even a Hardcore mode in New Vegas. There was gobbets of food hanging off of every goddam cactus. Instead of being a frantic struggle for survival it just ended up being one more button you pushed every couple of hours. Missed opportunity.

A Hardcore mode in Skyrim where you needed food, water, rest and warmth would be kind of cool though. Maybe give you a reason to carry firewood around in a Blizzard.
Warmth would be an awesome system given the setting. I remember way back in Morrowind I got a realism mod where you got sick if you were outside in the rain or in Solstheim and weren't wearing appropriate fur armor.

Of course the problem with that in Skyrim is that all of the clothes are surprisingly light. People wear more short sleeves and sleeveless than you'd expect them to, and one of the fur armors is actually bare chested.

It's about resources. Do you want them making 120 hand crafted dungeons (skyrim has 150+) just so they can make either one of your suggestions? Battlefield's and Call of Duty's single player doesn't suck because of beta testing, it sucks because of a lack of resources to make a proper campaign.
you mentioned beta testing, so there you go.
in any case, i realize resources are an issue as well. but simply replacing walking with a loading screen is just a lazy workaround for me, although i know many people hardly notice fast travel mode anymore.

so maybe this is where hardcore mode bridges the gap, i get to get more sucked into the world and everyone else get's to have convenience. you couldn't just remove fast travel from skyrim though, the game is built around it. the world is far to big to simply walk everywhere. a horse helps a bit, but a flying mount would probably be the best way to go.

or not, i guess. fast travel didn't bug me TOO much in fallout 3, so if bethesda really doesn't want to do that it wouldn't stop me from buying if i was going to anyway.

They could use the resources for bringing the game up to the level of travel options in a game they made 9 years ago, and cut down the number of dungeons, most of which are redundant and featureless anyway.

I keep thinking that the developers left it out because they were in a crunch. But then again there are so many ***** up design decisions that have been in all of their games, like instant use potions and pausing menus.
