like a teleportation spell, or do wow style and have flying animals cart your ass everywhere. i would like that a lot better.
Teleportation spell: Either need various versions of the spell for each location or have a pop-up asking where the player wants to go. Using a Mark and Recall system requires variables. Requires play testing.
Flying animals: You need animations, the animals in question to be models and textured. Then you need possible sound effects, price checking, and play testing.
Current Skyrim Fast Travel: Click and go. Player set to designated area, no sound effects, no animations, minor play testing compared to the other two options.![]()
It's about resources. Do you want them making 120 hand crafted dungeons (skyrim has 150+) just so they can make either one of your suggestions? Battlefield's and Call of Duty's single player doesn't suck because of beta testing, it sucks because of a lack of resources to make a proper campaign.
in any case, i realize resources are an issue as well. but simply replacing walking with a loading screen is just a lazy workaround for me, although i know many people hardly notice fast travel mode anymore.
so maybe this is where hardcore mode bridges the gap, i get to get more sucked into the world and everyone else get's to have convenience. you couldn't just remove fast travel from skyrim though, the game is built around it. the world is far to big to simply walk everywhere. a horse helps a bit, but a flying mount would probably be the best way to go.
or not, i guess. fast travel didn't bug me TOO much in fallout 3, so if bethesda really doesn't want to do that it wouldn't stop me from buying if i was going to anyway.
Unless the flying mount isn't a dragon. Then I guess it might make sense....although never in the series to my knowledge has anyone in Tamriel ever ridden a creature to fly. Levitation, yes, rides, no.
so flying mount mechanic; quick travel that provides very little break in gameplay, and is accessible to any build with the cash. that description could easily be retrofitted to something that fits in universe.
