ALL GLORY TO ME!

I like this thread. I always like these threads, and I always post in every one of them. And there are sooo many of them! Primarily because they bring out all the old greats from hiding (Hi!). And, funnily enough because every time I see them I tend to agree that it's changed. Isn't it funny that way?
I also love all the love for the mods, but that's more personal.
TBH, the forums were probably at their best long before I came here, before the time of Yahtzee and when there were only a few people here. And it'd do us good to get back to the time of page long OPs and similarly long responses. But as long as I can express my opinion, have someone disagree with me, and argue long into the night without any of us losing respect for one and other, I'll continue to come back.

Yeah, it's changed. A lot since I first signed up.. hell, I used to post more than once a week and was a really active user. But over the past year, I feel the community has gone so far down hill, I just don't like posting here any more. I think some of the stricter guidelines have dictated the nature of the change. There aren't many people I'd like to get to know as much as I did back in 08/09.. I made good friends then, and we're still in touch, through Twitter, Facebook and meet ups. But now.. not many people stand out to me.
Maybe it hasn't changed and I've become bored of this place, either way, I know I don't feel as enthusiastic about The Escpaist as I did a year or two ago.
Nah, you kinda hit the nail on the head there. It's changed, all the interesting characters are either gone or just stick to their circle jerks on the forum games.

It has been awhile since we've had one of these brings back memories what is next someone making a thread because the Escapist has become a too much changed son for them and they have gotten sick of the misanthropy of the community?

The only thing that has changed is that we spam some threads less and others more, there are less grammar nazis, less search bar nazis and less older people and people less willing to argument due to warning system.

Also most users that have been here more than a year and half tend to abandon the Gaming and Off topic forums for a few general reasons and tend to stay in user groups or migrate off to forum games and R&P. Then these users will either eventually get banned or more or less completely recluse into user groups.

Oh and post count used to have some small meaning now it is completely and utterly trivial until you reach some ridiculous number like 10k.

That said for the flaws that haven't changed we still have some pros that also haven't changed and the reason why there are still some older users on the forum the fact that the older users are still here despite the shit stands for something.

So really at our core we are the same but the surface has changed and we have lost our teeth and balls so to speak the Escapist has become a lot more tame and timid place to be and whether that is a good or bad thing is subjective.

eh I always sort of found the site to be pretentious, so I post here and there. Not really a fan of the whole "we're better than the rest of the internet" snobbery found here.

Has it changed? Put simply: not much

My good sir, the fun shall forever exist when one has slapping fish!
OT: As a joiner of September of last year, I've yet to so much change in the forums, as the streams of time does pass and minds and opinions of the people wander about. Doesn't stop me from entertaining myself along with others, wot wot.

I really think its changed due to moderation. When I first came here, I thought "Wow, everyone's so laid back," and now I think, "Wow, everyone's trying not to offend anyone so they don't get banned".

There lies my point. They won't change their view regardless of evidence shown. That shows arrogance and sheer denial. That won't help anyone in the real world
I think most political powers and religious establishments would like to disagree with you there. :)

Anyway;'; OT: What I would like to say has already been said, and a few times at that, so I present you with this dashing number:

I was here when 4chan rushed the site with gore and CP. What got me intrested in 4chan. Now that said I've seen alot more Meme and religous discustions since then. That about it. Mostly I avoid what I don't want to see. It is getting more undercontrol if anything. Don't see things like Susan leaving her opinion as much but meh.

I've been around since '08, it hasn't seemed to change much to me. If anything it's slightly better, nowadays I can post my opinion in a topic without having people mock it.
Usually.

Late edit: Whoops, I mean '09

I've been here for a few years, and I agree with ya whole hog.

I guess change is the natural order of life (I can still recall the old gods of this place leaving all at once over the banning of Demented Teddy) but I agree, sometimes I can't even look at the links in the popular forums bar without cringing at the pretentiousness or the entitlement or the whining upon whining (a problem I suppose I'm contributing to right now :s).

But others have said it best that this place tends to go through phases. For a while it'll be level-headed, and the forums will be full of communication and the forming of new ideas on everything from dollars to donuts, for the next while every thread is complaining about something with most of the posters just spewing how they're view is the only right one and then leaving.
